Welcome! I am Starry, Siren of Greed, former Siren of Air, one of the Seven Siren sisters, the list of titles goes on. Take a seat and stay a while if you wish. Let me tell you a little more about myself, hm? I'm certain that's why you're here. My Story Wow, take me back through the years..... alright. I was born a normal blue uni, with a doting father that had a coat like the midnight sky, and a loving mother who's pelt was the color of the summer sky. I inherited the pelt from my mother, and my father's trademark Star- on his rump, on mine. I also got his mane and eyes. Ah, I was a happy little filly, I belonged to a herd of many unis. I grew up there- well- mostly grew up there. The herd fell apart when the lead stallion died suddenly of unknown causes. Mother, Father, and I began east toward a land that promised another herd. We hoped to join. While heading eastward, my family and I had to cross an unforgiving desert. Not halfway through out journey, I was separated from my parents in a vicious sandstorm. Scared and alone, I took refuge in a rocky cave, bored into the side of a cliff. I slept there for the day, waiting for the cool of night to come. When I awoke, the sun had set and the sandstorm had subsided. I ventured from my cave to look for them, calling out until my voice was hoarse and my throat was parched. I was thirsty. I was hungry. I was alone and hurting. I had very little will left to live. The wind picked up again, and I collapsed. I had no strength left. I lay, waiting for death to carry me away. Oh, you poor darling little thing....." Came a voice soft as the sea's wind. I looked up weakly at my side. There, a mysterious creature stood. She resembled a uni, but was covered in withe and pale blue scales. Her silver hooves were cloven, and her tail was like a lion's, tipped with hair as gold as the sun. Her horn was curved back very slightly, and she had no wings. What I remember most were her piercing blue eyes. She leaned down and sniffed at me, and her breath smelled of spring flowers. Sweetheart, do you want to live?" She asked me. I hesitated before nodding weakly. I heard thunder rumble in the distance. Accepting to live by my doing, you'll become a siren. Do you know about the siren unis, Starry? I was not concerned with how she knew my name, but with the newfound will to live. I nodded again. I had heard the stories. They were passed off commonly as tales to make young colts behave and stay close to their mothers at night. Very well then. Do you still wish to live and become one of the cursed? Again, I nodded. I wanted to live at all costs. She smiled, touching my forehead with the tip of her horn. I felt energy flow through me. I wasn't hungry, I didn't hurt, and my throat was no longer sore and scratched from crying. You are a siren now, Starry. Oh, and I almost forgot.... How rude of me, I'm Tigerlilly. I'm the Ki-rin of Air. That makes you a siren of air." She nodded once to me. "Farewell. You'll find your way out of this desert, just follow the storm." And with the roar of thunder, she vanished into the wind that had kicked up again. Rain began to cover the sand, and when it hit my coat, I felt myself start to change. My fur vanished into scales of blue, my wings turned to giant fins, and my tail became Ki-rin like, tipped in silver. My horn curved, my hooves were cloven, and I felt very much alive. With the energy to race the winds themselves, I took off, following the storm. Doing so, a song burst forth from my throat, and the voice was sweet as honey and rich as velvet. It was a gorgeous soprano that carried over the desert. I was alarmed when another voice joined mine. Stopping, and I mean stopping completely, I looked to the dune where the voice was coming from. Over the sand dune was a deep blue mare with a lighter blue face, hocks, and, what shocked me the most, a fish's tail. She had a flowing curly black mane and fins for wings as well. I stood in awe as she raced up to me, and looked down with a laugh that sounded like bells. Well would you look at that." She said, and her voice carried a very think Irish accent. "Another one. Wow!" I was so happy to see another uni, let alone a siren. "You're just like me! Sweetie." She corrected. "I was the first. I'm thenea." Even better. WOW!" I beamed. "I'm Starry!" She smiled down at me. You must be the new one. Ah, you're the third. And I remembered. Oh..... um..... Miss thenea..... did you by any chance see my mommy or daddy?" I asked, high in hopes, she had come from the direction that we started from. She frowned and shook her head sadly. I'm sorry, Starry, but no. I didn't see your parents. Oh....." I hung my head. She nudged me slightly. Come on. The least I can do is help you out of the desert. Who gave you your powers, anyway? She said her name was Tigerlilly...." I replied thoughtfully. thenea nodded. An Air Siren. You're the first one of them. We walked through the storm, heading to the very faint edge of green I could see shining in the distant sunlight. She told me all of the facts and fictions of the sirens, and by the time we were there, I felt I have been a siren all my life, like I knew all there was to know. Thank you so much, Miss thenea!" I bowed my head in thanks. We had both long since dried off. thenea was a very pretty white mare with a lion's tail and a curly black mane. She had a peculiar six-pointed silver star at the base of her horn. A string of jade was woven into her mane. You don't need to call me miss." She informed. "On your way. I'm sure we'll meet again someday. It was a long way, but I made it through the forest to a land near a beautiful crystal blue lake. The stars there were as clear as glass, shining like diamonds in the sky. I was transfixed, and I lost myself in them. I forgot all of my worries, all of my regret, my sorrow. I sent them away to the stars, to be far away in the infinite night sky, never to return. It was here that I would make my home. I grew up beside the lake. It was secluded, far from any stallions I might endanger with my singing. I could no longer see my true face in the water whenever I gazed on my reflection. I always saw my siren self, staring back at me with cerulean eyes. It was a little disquieting at first, but I got used to it. I lived there for several years before deciding to venture out into the world away from my little lake. About a month and a half into my journey, I met a stallion by the name of Jak. He was blood red,lion-tailed, and had no wings. I mistook him for a Ki-rin at a distant glance, but upon further inspection as I drew close, no, he was just a normal stallion.... well, that's what I thought at first. I thought he was quite handsome. We spent the day together, telling stories, laughing, racing, we became fast friends.... And then the sun began to set. He shooed me away in a panic, telling me to get as far out of dodge as possible. I fled, falling into the nearby river and changing. Still spooked, I continued into the forest, watching from the foliage to see what happened. Jak had become human, still devastatingly handsome, but there was cruel intent in his bloodthirsty eyes. I fled, vowing to come back when the sun rose. Sure enough, when I came back at dawn, he was his uni self. I told him what I had seen, and he frowned, admitting he had wanted to keep it a secret from me. I informed him that it wasn't any good trying to lie to me-- I had always been good at seeing through that sort of thing. He also told me his curse only activated during the full moon. It was the last day of the phase, and we could travel together. I told him my secret, and he was a little startled, but was ready to accept it none the less. It took a few moon phases for it to happen, but one night below the half moon, we admitted we loved eachother. I would stand by his side until I died. I had to leave, however, for a different calling came to me. Along the journey, I had befriended a mare named Tabby. She and I were best of friends, and I had received news that she had been captured. Determined to set her free, I set out, leaving Jak behind. My mission to save Tabby went over fairly well. I got caught once, but manged to free her. No friend of mine would be slave to anyone else. We were close again..... and then.... She died.... Her and another close friend of mine, Angel, both passed away at the same time. It was devastating.... I was broken for so long... Luckily, I had Jak to fall back on, and I had just found out that I was quick with his child. I was young, yes, but I was old enough to be taken by this. And Jak was, it seems, much too young to die. Still, I'm not entirely sure if that's what happened, if he died or if he just left, but I was left to bear his child. I felt it, but I wasn't alone. I had wandered far, and came across a mystic land, bearing almost every kind of terrain possible. A river flowed straight through it from the top of the frozen caves I could see, all the way down to the beach where the sands were gold. I knew I was home. upon entering, I was taken out of nowhere by a white blur. When it slowed, I knew who stood before me. thenea!!!" I was overjoyed. My old friend looked at me oddly for a moment, then donned a pleasantly surprised -disallowed_word-My friends told me it was fitting because I sparkle!) That seven dwindled down to six, however, as thenea died shortly thereafter. I'd recently heard rumors of her returning, but I haven't seen her for myself. Her death shook me hard, and if she's still alive, I'd love to find her. Time passed slowly, and Dhub Hessa began to fall apart as Anthradel had. Unis came and went, and the social structure diminished. The only place it remained untouched was the Celestial Mountain and the Spirit Peak. Soon, they, too, would crumble. I watched Cloud grow up with Guardian at my side. I was happy, life was normal, and things had settled down. Unfortunately, with happiness comes loss, and I was crushed the day Sky returned to me and informed me that her twin foals had died. It had been a forest fire, and she couldn't get to them in time. She wore their feathers-- as well as Aheam's --in her mane. She asked each of us -- Guardian, Cloud, and I-- for a feather. We all happily obliged, and she wears those, now, on a ring around her horn. After a few days of staying with us, she told me that she was planing to head south, towards the southern seas and islands. I wished her luck, helped her pack provisions, and saw her off the following morning when it was still dark. Things were heading south. Guardian had to go back to Heaven for some reason or another, and I was left to watch Cloud. He was old enough to take care of himself now, and insisted on wandering the Dhub Hessa lands. He had grown into such a fine stallion, I was sure he would be fine. I let him go, and was left alone with the stars on my peak. It was quiet, and my wanderlust woke up again. I had to go on. I needed another adventure. So I bid Dhub Hessa goodbye and began my journey north-- as thenea once had. It was a quiet journey, for the most part, and I encountered new friends and left them behind. Some of them traveled with me for a while, but eventually, once I reached the frozen wastelands, I was alone again. But it was beautiful here. I reached the edge of their snowy plains at sundown. As the sky began to turn black, the stars came out, and something I had never seen before danced among them The Northern Lights. I was captivated-- I had never seen anything like them, never dreamed of anything so beautiful. They danced and curled through the sky like a ribbon from Heaven. I was compelled. I spread my wings--stiff from the cold-- and flew towards them. .....Okay, so I admit, that wasn't my smartest plan, but I couldn't help myself! It was entrancing! As I soared ever higher, my wings ached and complained. I ignored them. The stars got clearer, and the lights brighter. I was flying higher than I ever had before.... And that, ultimately, is what made me fall. I ran out of air, my head began to spin, and the next thing I knew, I was falling. I blacked out before I hit the ground. When I woke up, I was in the safe warmth of a cave. My head hurt. My whole body hurt. I barely remembered falling, but it came back to me shortly after I awoke. There was a soft fire glowing in front of me, and a shadowed figure on the other side. I lifted my head to get a better look at them. They were shrouded in a cloak, and I couldn't see their face. They were smaller than me, though. Good, you're awake. They said. The voice was decidedly female. I blinked. What.... happened? You took quite a nasty fall, there, missy. If your wings didn't break the fall, you'd be dead right now. My wings. It occurred to me then that I couldn't feel them. Panicked, I turned to look at my back. Completely bare. I let out a startled cry, and the woman across the fire raised a paw to quiet me. Paw? The form... She was a Kyrii. I had to get them off of you. You would have bled out from them if the frostbite didn't get them first. But... But how am I going to fly?!" Tears burned at my eyes. It was one of the things I enjoyed doing most. I couldn't imagine a life without flying. I can give you a new set of wings, but it'll take a while to get used to them, and you'll be stuck with them until you die. I'm willing to risk that, please, I'll die if I can't fly!" My voice shot through several octaves. The Kyrii laughed lightly, taking down her hood. She looked as old as I was, and her hair was ice-blue. Nearly translucent. Alright, mare, hold still." She reached into a sleeve and pulled out a bottle with what appeared to be liquid ice in it. It was beautiful at the same time as alarming. She stood up and made her way over to me, uncorking it and pouring the contents on where my wings once were. OH was it EVER cold!! I winced, but found I couldn't move. It was as if that potion froze my entire body. Stretch out your wings, you've got plenty of room." The Kyrii instructed. I moved them as I always had, and I watched in amazement as the ice moved like swirling water, forming wide, frozen wings. They were as big as my natural set had been, and just as magnificent. Spread, they were slightly opaque. When I folded them, they became solid ice against my body. They didn't make my fur cold, either, which startled me. That ice is from the snow faerie herself. It was a gift she gave to me long, long ago. I'd never found the use for it, but I always kept it on hand. Never know who might need it. I guess, after all these years, I finally found it's purpose. Must have been destiny we met. The ice, however, was making me sleepy. It was hard to keep my eyes open. I blacked out again. Coming to, I found the fire growing dim and the Kyrii gone. There was a note beside me, folded open so that I could read it. Keep those wings safe. They'll never melt, they'll keep you warm in the cold, and keep you cool in the warmth. This cave is yours if you wish to stay here. Should you decide to visit the snow faerie, tell her that Yuki sent you. I looked around the cave itself for the first time. It went farther back than where I was. In that deep room, it ended, but the room was huge, and ice crystals sparkled all over the walls like the stars themselves. I was sold. I would stay here until my wanderlust re-awoke. As I spent my time in the frozen north, I picked up some ice magic, adding it to the star divination and magic I had learned throughout my years. I searched for a frozen lake or some source of water to turn me to a Siren, but only prevailed once. I found the sea very far away from my cave. Never. Again. My wings were difficult to swim with. They transformed with me, but the water was far too cold for me to be in for more than a few minutes. When I went south to the seas again, I'd have to give it another shot. I spend my time here as the ward to those lost in the blizzards that blow across these plains. I save those lost, keep them warm, and guide them to the valley that's inhabited, not too far from this place.
