Greetings! I am Sesheshet, or Shet for short, a priestress of Hathor.

Hathor, Lady of Heaven, is the daughter or Ra (the Sun) and Nut (the Sky). She's the goddess or joy, motherhood, and love, protectress of pregnant women, and patron of all women. She is also a goddess of music and dancing, her symbol being the sistrum.

Hathor is represented as a cow, sometimes with stars on her, a woman with the head of a cow, or a woman with the ears or horns of a cow.

The sistrum is a sacred percussion instrument. It consist of a metal frame fitted with loose strips of metal and disks which jingled when moved. This noise was thought to attract the attention of the gods and please their ears. There are two types of sistrum, the iba, and the seseshet The sesheshet has the shape of a naos temple above a Hathor head, with ornamental loops on the sides. The rattle is inside the box of the naos. (A naos is a shrine where divine statues are kept.)

Occupation

As I told you before, I am a priestress of Hathor. Every morning, I pray the goddess and prepare the hetep, the offerings, wich usually are flowers nicely arranged in bouquets, food, and amulets, but sometimes I add a statue. Those are made of stone, clay or wood and are decorated with precious stones and metals. I also play the harp and flute (not at the same time, silly) to please mortals and gods alike, and to keep demons away.

Also, Aahmès has asked me to host APA, wich you'll find at the bottom of the page. I help choose the winners. Sorry if it takes her time to get through the mails and award petpages, I often have to push her a little, she's getting kind of lazy...
