A soft winged zafara is pushed forward. She is covered in pure white fur and lavished with gold jewerly and fine beads made out of precious colored stones. She eyes are cast downwards, face all flush with bright shyness. Her crystal blue eyes stare at the stack of index cards in her paws.

Her voice, barely above a whisper, begins to read aloud the first card.

Now the first thing you need to know is what is RP, or Roleplay, anyway?

To assume or represent in a drama; act out:

Example: Help, the white zafara standing before you takes a qiuck glance at you, blushes neriously, and drops her gaze back into the safety on her index cards.

Roleplay, sometimes shorten to the short form, "RP", when it comes to online interaction is the formation of a character and a scene which one or more people/ characters partisapate in.

Otherwise stated as: A pretend dialog between people (like yourself!) who pretend things or pretend characters which do things that are pretend. It's a story that you create in a make-believe world. It can take place in ANY setting. Even "real" ones such as at your house or at your school or pretend ones like Middle Earth (from J. R. R. Tolken's Lord of the Rings). "Middle Earth" is a place in a fantasy world where elves, men, orcs, dwarves, dragons and many other creatures live together. It's up to you decide what place you want to RP in! Isn't that great?

What do you do in a Roleplay?

Any character, even a very shy zafara that has she nose in her cards again, (A deep shade of pink come to Help's cheeks as she reads the next part of the instructions.
Help, look at them not at your cards!) with any and all the other characters, can go many places and do many things, any thing! Like, for example, turning bright pink when she has to talk to anybody, Or, even more fun like getting into trouble, running into problems, finding or discovering new things, meeting new friends and enemies, fighting with one another (whether friendly or not), singing, dancing, laughing, anything you can imagine! You can do all these things and more in the RP world that you create!


Don't know how to RP:" Now you may think that you don't know how to RP, but, I'll tell you, you do. Take a step back in time, in your memories, and remember when you were younger and you pretended to be "mommy" or "daddy"? Well, guess what! That's roleplaying! Wow! (Help, look up and smile! Need big impact here!) Only then you were roleplaying the character "mommy" or "daddy." Now you are moving to the next step which with more mature logic (or maybe not depending on what you are RP-ing) to do more things and go more places. Still don't think you know how to roleplay? Don't worry! You're in the right place. I, Help, am going to walk you through the process. That's why you're here having a overly shy zafara read to you from her index cards right?

Character Building:"

Now before you start to RP you need to decide what type of character you are going to be (now this may change as the RP story grows or maybe you'll add new characters to it or *hopefully not* get rid of some that you had/were.) Here are a few ways in starting to decide what you want to be, keep in mind that this is only a few of the ideas I've come across. There are many more things you could be/do/etc. The following is a step by step Process of Building a Character. You can do any or all the steps or skip them completely. It's up to you. :)


Step 1, A: Gender
Step 1, B: What are you? Here are some suggestions:

All these things you can mix and match to make a custom character for you to play. Now that you have decided what your character's going to be it's time to "color"in your character.

Age. How old is your character? Young, old? In-between? Each age is different and could respond differently in a RP.

Age:
baby, child, youngster, adolescent, young adult, adult, ageless, etc.

Those are just some suggestions or ideas to get you started. You can be anything you want. You can also have more than one character but if your just starting out, I suggest that you only have one character.


Step 2: Think of an in-depth description of what your character looks like and personality traits.

You don't need to have all but the more you have the better. It also depends on what type of RP your Rp-ing, like if you're just doing a normal High School roleplay you're not going to need "Powers" and "Weapons". More of something like "Loner/Social" and "Clothes".

Step 3: What kind of Personality does your character have?

Is it outgoing? Shy? Anti-social? Just like you? ;) Here's a few of the many ideas you could use for your character's personality. Remember, it's not like they can only have one! You can mix and match one of more together to form a personality fitting to your character. :3

Every character has to have a name, some have more then one. You just have to start somewhere. Here's some ideas:


How to start a roleplay and where:"

Every RP takes place somewhere. Even if that somewhere is nowhere. That's where the "setting" comes in. Right now you are with Help as she teaches you about roleplaying. That's the setting. You can make a setting be anywhere you like. Here's some ideas:

RP Char Tips:
  • Never use someone else's character unless you have permission before you use their character or if that cannot be done, don't put words into their mouths. Also be willing to redo the RP if they are unhappy with it.
  • Never belittle someone else's RP, RP skills, or character(s). They many not be as good of a RP-er as you are or maybe it's not what you thought they should have RP-ed but they're doing the best they can and it's THEIR CHARACTER not yours. Everyone is different and the way people think is different. Let them be who they are and you be who you are. RP-ing is for fun not for a profession (if so then neomail me about it because I never heard that one before.) So have fun. And remember, there's always going to be some who doesn't like you or your RP, etc. Don't take it personal. They don't know you and don't care. You are who you are and you should be proud of that. Just move on and continue RP-ing. You can never have too much RP in my eyes :)! SO HAVE FUN!!!

    Lab record:
    Help was born a Red Zafara, then turned spotted. Next a yucky Green Kiko. After that a Red Shoyru, turned Ghost, and Gold. Zapped back into a Blue Zafara, then Halloween. Bzapped into a Blue Grarrl, turned Mutant and Fire. After being checkered for 3 months was turned eletric for a day then Gold. Right after that became a Yellow Scrochio, 2 days was Purple, then Gold, Blue then Purple again. Was blue for a month then ghost. Then changed into a blue Nimo, painted fire, yellow, starry. Zapped into a Red Moehog, Christmas for 2 months, Strawberry 1 month, brown, spotted, and cloud. Next was a Green Kryii, next day christmas, also striped, desert, spotted. Lastly was a Yellow Skeith. Was morphed BACK into a Zafara and painted Christmas after that.

    Goal: REACHED: Str, & Hp to 50 (6/12/04)
    Finished Labbing: 11/07/04 morphed and painted after reaching str boost.

    Is now BACK under lab treatment after being de-painted by the item Turnip Tonic. Currently a Christmas Cybunny which she has been for 2 months. Will continue this way until stats are 700 each or if Raichu saves up for a Royal Paint Brush before that.
