So you want to run a shop? I'm just the blumaroo to help you! Running a successful shop means you want repeat business, happy customers, and of course you want to Make NP (neopoints)!. Fortunately this is an easy thing to accomplish! First, you need to decide what to sell. If you sell all sorts of items, people will never know what you have and there will be no reason for them to come back! If you sell a type of item, such as grooming or clothes, then if someone needs clothes or grooming items, they will KNOW to come to your shop! Other examples of shop themes are: books, faerie foods, purple items, and jelly items. Now that you have decided what to sell, you need to find the Neopian shops that sell those items. Here's a complete list of the shops that exist: Start Small!
Pick one shop. Watch it for a while. See which items sell first. Look up the items on the Wizard to see how much they are worth. An item is only worth what people will pay for it, so the wizard is the best price guide out there!
After watching the shop for a while, then start buying items. Buy only items that you can make a profit on. Your goal will be to have the low price or one of the lowest prices on the wizard. Set your priceWhen setting your price, realize that the wizard divides people up into different groups. The first letter/number of your name tells you which group you are in. My name is i_deal, so my group contains all the people whose name starts with i. Reload the wizard until you see the item for your group! Note that some items might be more expensive for your group than others, while some items might be cheaper. Price your item so that you are one of the top 5 (if not the top) price on the list.

If my name started with an M and I wanted to sell Toffee Ice Cream in my shop, I would try to price the ice cream at 375 NP. That way I would be the cheapest on the list. Try not to lose money!However, if I bought the ice cream for 390, I would price it at 395. The goal here is not to lose money. It happens sometimes, so don't sweat it when it happens. Once I bought an item and I mistakenly put it in my shop for 5,000 instead of 50,000 NP. It sold very fast, and I lost 45,000 NP very fast, but that's ok. Remember, it's only play money!Accept all neofriends!
An interesting idea, but many people mark your shop by making you a neofriend. Remember, if the person annoys you later, you CAN block them, but accepting anyone as a neofriend encourages people to come back!
Grow whenever possible!In the beginning, I played neogames to earn money just to put that money back into my shop. Don't take much out -- until you become as big as you want to be.How big do I want to be?
How much do you want to stock? First focus on one shop, but as you grow, you can grow into having related items (go from having Faerie Foods to all foods, etc). This makes your shop more useful. Don't try to have everything -- people tend to like shops that they know they can find things in.
RestockingI suggest restocking your shop about once a day. That way you keep plenty of items in it. You don't have to replace an item with the same one, but you can if you want. For instance, I can replace a Toffee Ice Cream with a Tiger Shoyru Ice Cream when I restock. Notice I'm restocking with things that are similar!Keep cheap items in your shop!It's important, even when you become big to have plenty of items priced at 1,000 NP or less. That way EVERYONE can buy from you :)Watch out for good deals!
Once in a while, while using the Wizard, you'll find someone with a really good deal in their shop. If you see it, buy it! However, be sure that they aren't changing the price on you! (ALWAYS READ the alert that says"are you sure...") I have gotten some very good deals this way!
Auctions can be a very tricky thing, however, you can find good deals there too! When I use the auctions, I go a few pages in (Auctions 21-40) so that I have time to look up the items in the wizard. You have to be quick to get a good item from the auctions, but it is possible! You can also find good deals in neopian shops! If you buy something that doesn't appear on the wizard, you now have what is known as an"unbuyable"! That means it's worth more than 100,000 NP! If you want to sell this item, try the Trading Post or the Auctions. Add Graphics to your shop!Make sure your graphics tell people WHAT you are selling! Having a picture of your favorite singer is nice, but it won't encourage people to shop! You can create your own picture and host them online_ There are many free places that will host images for you (like: imageshack . us). Use the HTML reference guide for help making your page look nice.Advertise your shop!Be sure and advertise only where appropriate. You can advertise by changing your NeoSignature, posting to the"Shop Ads" board, or telling your guild members and neofriends about it.Enjoy Your SuccessWhen you feel happy with what your shop is carrying, and it has everything you want it to have, it's done!
