Where It All Began

The day started out like any other would. A young Adianaki ran the streets with his younger brother, Maika. Adia was in his young teens, and Maika had just turned eleven. They were very close brothers, for they had to go it alone. Their mother had been killed long ago, when they were too young to remember.
Adia, no fair! You're taller, you can run faster!" Maika whined as his brother pulled away from him in a game of harsh tag.
Indeed, Adia was much taller. He had already reached 5'8", and he was only fourteen. He had broad shoulders and a strong build. His light blue hair was long and grown out, down to his shoulders. It flapped freely as he ran, circling his brother.
C'mon you wimp! Try and catch me!" He coaxed tersely. Maika, who was only 5'2", jumped after Adia and they continued the chase.
A cloaked figure watched the two boys from afar, his features hidden beneath his hood. Humph. They think they can get away with that stupid act.

----

Late at night, the boys returned to their small house. It had only four rooms: a kitchen with a table and set of chairs, a washroom, and a private room for each boy. It had been abandoned a while ago because of the constant state of disrepair, but the boys had repaired it somewhat so that they could live in it.

The boys sat at the small table, enjoying a simple meal as the sun gave off its last bit of light. They ate in silence, for they had nothing to discuss. They did most everything together, and had learned each other's silent cues. There was no need for talking. This was the usual routine, the same thing happened night after night.
Until this night.
The strange cloaked person who had been watching them run about the town approached the house. He stopped in front of the door temporarily, knocked, and awaited one of the boys to answer the door.
Adia got up and rushed to the door. As he opened it, and was met by the backhand of the man in the cloak. He fell five feet backwards, and his head collided with the wall. He went limp and shut his eyes as blood slowly seeped into his blue hair, staining it.
Adia!" Maika yelled, hurriedly rising from his seat and running towards the door. The cloaked man grabbed him by the cuff of his beige shirt, pulled him up to eye level, then threw him onto the table. The birch table snapped easily under the force of his body. His ribs cracked, and the table fell on top of him. "Adia! Adia, help me!!" He pleaded. "Someone help me!!
Nobody is coming to save you, little demon boy," The man warned in a low, menacing tone. He pulled a dagger out from beneath his cloak, the finely refined silver glinting in the waning light, and slowly made his way closer to Maika.
The boy squirmed under the table, slowly getting free. His sides pained him as he tried to get loose. Fear poured out of his eyes, and his heart raced. What does he want with us? he asked himself.
Adia moaned, raising his hand to his head. It felt as if someone was driving a nail further and further into his head. He looked drearily around the room, and saw the man standing overtop his brother. He shuffled wearily on the floor in an attempt to stand up. "Leave him alone..." He threatened quietly, finding it hard to catch his breath.
Adia, help me!!" Maika called one last time. As he struggled furiously pain shot through abdomen. He winced and paused. Looking up, he caught the gaze of the man about to kill him. He watched, helpless as the man grabbed his collar again.
Goodbye, little demon boy.
The man thrusted the dagger into Maika's chest, and dropped him back onto the debris from the table. He stood up, and watched as the life drained slowly from the boy's body, even locking eyes with him as the lights inside finally went out.
Maika!!" Adia called desperately. He wobbled on unsteady feet, eyes still groggy and out of focus. "Get away from him!" He barked, his voice hoarse.
The man chuckled from beneath his hood, his face hidden in shadows. "It's too late for him now, young one. But do not worry, for you shall soon be joining him." The man turned to Adia, the dagger shining with his brother's blood.
Damn you!" Adia cursed angrily, rage bubbling up inside of him. He glared with a burning hatred at the man with his red eyes. "I fear that it will be you who will not see the light of day!" He growled. He clenched his fists and tensed his jaw, until one would think his teeth would begin cracking under the pressure.
All of a sudden, the youth began changing. His red eyes only gave a glimpse of his truly demonic form in human shape. He grew to 15 feet tall, with large, powerful forelegs with long silver talons. A long snout grew, two horns protruding from his head. Large leathery wings came from his back, making him look enormous. He now had a long, whip-like tail. This was the body of a dragon. He roared with anger. He raised his left forearm and swept the man from the house, destroying two of the walls at the same time. The man had clearly not expected this.
He rolled to the ground, his body battered and broken. Adia wished for his bones to be broken so he would suffer as he would die.
You are definitely a fighter, young one," the man commented quietly. The wind had been knocked out of him, and his ribs were clearly bruised. "You are too inexperienced, however. Your demise shall be soon.
Adia growled menacingly, silvery teeth shining in the newly appeared moonlight. He watched the man carefully as he got to his feet. He circled him, his red eyes analyzing everything. Even at a young age, he needed to know about everything that was going on, down to the last detail.
The man produced another dagger from his cloak. He was being paid a handsome sum for getting rid of these two demons, and he was not about to give that up. He charged forward, which surprised Adia. Surely the man would be hesitant about charging at a creature ten times larger than himself. But no matter. Adia swept his long tail forward, easily swiping the man to the ground.
Something shot into his abdomen and sent a fleeting pain, making his skin tremble. Adia looked down, and saw the dagger stuck in his flesh. He growled and winced, but kept up his angry, hate-filled exterior. He wanted this finished, so he could get back to his brother.
He took in a deep breath, and exhaled a great mass of fire. All his energy was put into one single, lethal blast. All that was left of the man were dry, grey ashes.
Adia sighed, and returned to his human form. He pulled the dagger from his flesh, and back to the remains of their quaint house to his brother.
Maika…" He whispered, clutching the unmoving body of his brother. He cradled his head, hoping for some sign of life. But there was none. It had already ebbed away. "No. Please wake up. Maika?
Tears welled up in the youth's eyes, and begun sliding down his pale cheeks.
He couldn't even defend himself. You had no right to kill him! Adia thought angrily at his brother's murderer. I couldn't do anything to save you. And it's all my fault.
