Zaperae, The Piratesize=8>

Steal. Pilfer. Plunder. Loot. This is my life. The life of a pirate. I've always done these things, and never thought twice about it. Its our way of life. I've been a pirate all my life, sailed the seven seas and raided many villages. And I thought It would stay that way. But I was wrong.

I was examining some gold pieces I had stolen from our last raid. These would catch a good price at the market. Then the door opened with a slam. It was our Captain. He said that we were going on a another raid. But it would take us a few days to get there since it was inland. Inland? Thats strange, we never went inland. The captain heard rumors about a great city, that flourished and had great riches. It was a city called Falyis.

We were planning on arriving at the city Falyis in a day. There was a forest nearby. We had to cross through a little corner of it to reach the plains Falyis was on. It was a sad and lonely place, but it felt like there was magic binding it together.

We were only a few miles away from the city, when we started to prepare for battle. Sharpening our swords and daggers, loading the cannons and guns... I was very good at fencing, so I was to lead the charge. I got off the ship and looked at the city. We waved our flag. The very flag that striked fear into the hearts of our enemies. It was time and I was ready.

We pulled down the city walls and threw our torches. The blaze soon spread, and soon, none escaped the affliction of the flames. Soon, there were citizens streaming from each house, all trying to escape. We let none live... those who survived the fire were struck down by me or my comrades. I felt a growing sense of guilt, but I banished it. This was no time to feel sorry. They were victims, only victims, never meant to be more than casualties of war.

I saw a silver kougra and a white uni run by as we marched to the city center, but I paid them little notice.

When we reached the castle I was amazed, it was huge. Much bigger than ever ship I ever saw. We shoved the door over like tugging a leaf of a tree. I galloped tward the great hall, and saw the queen, a striped kougra. She looked at me with her cyan eyes, and screamed, she grabbed her crown and ran. My comrades caught up with her. After we delt with her, I went looking for the king. He almost escape out a window but a grabbed him before he could make his fatefull escape. A sword went through him and he was dead. When I came out of a room, I glanced over. I saw a hint of silver, It was the princess, my comrade ambushed her and dragged her out of the castle. We were trying to take her to the ship, but suddenly i felt ver odd. A vision flashed before me...

***

I saw the city again. I don't know what happened to me that moment, why I had a change of heart so suddenly. I saw the death around me, heard the screams of the innocent, saw the glory of Falyis knowing it would die soon, be forgotten forever. And it was my fault. My fault that this doomed city was licked by flames, my fault that thousands of innocent citizens were being burnt or trampled to death each second, my fault that they were going to kill the princess. I couldn't take it anymore. Gripped by revulsion, I slashed open the princess's bonds. "Run away!" I shouted to her, and I held the other pirates back. They knocked me to the ground in a few seconds, but it was all she needed to escape. The pirates chased after her, but the silver kougra was swift. I watched her escape the city of death as I was left to die, but I could not help but feel a pang of sadness as I remembered the white uni. Did she escape? And would they ever find each other again? I could only wonder...
