Cloudy Seas

Gloomy days
Cloudy seas
What have I
Done to me?

Young... naive
That was me
Just too late
Could I see

Can't go back
Can't go on
Future... past
Now all gone...

As you walked along the beach of Mystery Island, the sky slowly begins to grow darker. The sea starts to churn and toss. You walk quicker, anxious to get out of here before a big storm comes. Suddenly it begins to rain... hard. You spot a blue gelertess in the distance, with her head facing upward. What is she doing? Thunder booms, and lightning lights up the sky. Before you realize it, a huge wave comes down on top of you, sweeping you under the water. Moments seem like hours as you struggle to reach the surface, which seems so far away. Suddenly, a dark form that resembles a gelert comes toward you in the water. It grabs you and pulls you up to the surface, then drags you to a cave by the shore. Setting you on a rock, the gelert disappears under the waves. As you sit on the rock, the storm gradually slows down until it's only raining.

Are you okay?

The soft, sad voice seemed to come out of nowhere. You whirl around to see a sea-colored gelert halfway in the water, the upper half on a rock. He's the one who saved you. His sad, grey eyes look over you with concern.

Yeah, I'm okay," you tell the gelert.

He smiles slightly. "That's good. My name's Varunos, by the way. My sister, Kishasis was just in the mood to create a storm.

You look at him, confused, but he just shakes his head.

If you want to find out about Kishasis and her powers, ask her yourself.

He sighs and climbs all the way up onto the rock, revealing to you for the first time his tail. Varunos had the upper body of a gelert, but the lower portion of his body seemed to be a fish or something. You stare, open-mouthed at this unusual sight.

He notices you staring, and says quitely, "It's rude to stare.

I'm sorry.." you say. "I was just-

He cuts you off. "Would you like to hear about how I became this way?

You nod, and he clears his throat and begins...

When I was young, I was a normal blue gelert. My egg was hatched by the sea, and I immediately fell in love with it. Too much for my own good. I was always fascinated with the life under water, and I desperately wanted to be a part of it, so I set out to find a solution. I went to my sister, Kishasis, asking her if she knew a way I could breathe underwater, but still remain a gelert. Kishasis tried to cast a water type spell that would allow me to breathe under water, but it didn't work. The most she can do is conjure water and make it do her will. That wouldn't help me. So, she suggested that I see Kauvara, and ask her for a potion. My two other sisters, Orendiana and Akiemi, advised against this, but in my ignorance, I chose not to listen. I went to Kauvara, and asked her if there was someway I could become a water-type gelert. She shook her head. They only way I could become a water creature was to change into one. There was no potion yet safe enough to turn me into what she called a "maraquan" gelert. She led me to the back of the store and showed me the potions I could use. At that moment, a customer came in, demanding that Kauvara see him immediately. Kauvara sighed, telling me that she would be back in a minute. When she had gone, I quickly searched the shelves to see if I could find something that would work. I grabbed the first useful things I saw. A half full bottle of a green gelert morphing potion, a blue peophin morphing potion, and one other thing that caught my eye... Maraquan powder. I hastily poured half of the peophin potion into the gelert one, and sprinkled maraquan powder on top. Then, I put the cork on and shook it up. It fizzled, then began to glow a blue-green color. I took out the cork again just as Kauvara came back. "Stop! No!" she shouted as I drank the contents of the bottle. She knocked it out of my hands... a moment too late. My body started to glow. Dimly at first, but then it got brighter. My fur turned slightly greener, and the hair on top of my head and my stomach turned green. But that wasn't the worst of it. Not at all. My back legs started to stretch out and become soft, like liquid clay. Soon, my tail did the same. My legs and tail started to mold themselves together and form a tail like a peophin's. Then my tail hardened, and became slightly scaly at the end. Once the transformation was complete, I passed out. When I awoke, I was back at home. My family was staring down at me. They looked worried. I looked down at my tail... my fin. What had I done? Now I was a... a freak. I started to sob, and my sister's and owner comforted me. I asked them if there was anything to do to be able to turn back into my old self, and they said no. The mix I had made was permanent. I was stuck like this for life... After that, I spent a few weeks in my room, shutting myself away from everyone. Once I got over the shock, I told my owner that I needed to go to a place I would fit in better, where I could move around freely, and live with other sea creatures. She nodded and took me outside to the ocean. With one last hug, she bade me goodbye. I went into the water, and called back to her that I would always be nearby... in case she needed me. That's when I found this place. I've been here ever since. My family lives nearby, and I keep to myself most of the time. That suits me fine, because I'm naturally a loner. But even loners need a... someone. A someone to warm you on the coldest nights, a light to guide you in your darkest hour, a someone to love... Only, I am the only one of my kind. And one is meant to be a lonely number.

Farewell
The gelert smiles and waves as you get up to leave. It has stopped raining now, and a rainbow is painted in the sky.

It's been nice to have some company. Please feel welcome to come again, or better yet, invite someone else to visit me. Farewell, and may the tide bring you back someday.

You turn back for one last look at Varunos, but he is gone.
