Welcome to the Mutant Museum! My name is Transmorgrified, and I am the curator and director of this Museum. Given my name, it shouldn't surprise you that I am dedicated to all things mutant and to preserving the history of Mutants everywhere.

But before you take a tour of the Museum you might want to know a little bit about me. In light of my name, you might think that my owner created me, but in actuality I was lost in the pound and rescued by GetxthexPoint! At that time I was a yellow chia, but my mutant-loving mom immediatley knew that my true destiny was to become a Mutant. She had adopted me as a foster pet so she wrestled with her self for a while on whether to keep me, but once she decided to do so, the only question that remained was what mutant form I should take and, well, you see the result before you. I think she picked very well! And I love my mutant gelert look! ;)

But now I should get back to my job and the Museum! I'd hate to keep lovely visitors like you from touring our collection of Mutant artifacts! Enjoy, and if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask!!

Mutant Trivia Question of the Month:
While Mutants were first introduced in a plot featuring Dr. Sloth, it has been a long time since they were last featured in a plot! Two plots this year featured what might be considered Mutants, but only one of them had undeniably mutant characters in it. What is the name of this plot and name two of the characters that were undeniably mutant!

The Tale of Woe Plot, and the two characters are the Spirt of Slumber (Mutant Lupe) and the Mutant Hissi Twins

The Origin of Mutants

It would be impossible to speak of the origin of mutants without first speaking of the nefarious scientist Dr. Frank Sloth! Little is known about Dr. Sloth's arrival here on Neopia other than that at the time that he did arrive Neopia was an extaordinarily desolate place. Dr. Sloth reveled in it's barren bleakness and set up an underground lair where he could continue his sickening experiments. But it wasn't long before Neopia changed and life itself began to form on the surface of our brave new world Neopia. And Dr. Sloth who hate the light and hated these bright living Neopians shrunk into his underground lair in disgust.

It appears to be at this moment, when Dr. Sloth first saw the living beings forming on the Neopian surface, that he hatched his evil plan to take these creatures and mutate them with his magical potions to do his bidding and to ultimately take over Neopia for himself. He planned to enslave these young life forms, these neopets, by mutating them into thoughtless creatures that would only do his bidding.

This image, drawn by Sloth himself, is a self-portrait and image of his dream for Neopia . . .

Unfortunately, little is known about this period other than that Dr. Sloth worked in private towards the fruition of his grand schemes to mutate all Neopians. In fact, very little of Dr. Sloth was seen until suddenly in Year 2 he appeared in Neopia with a giant orbiting Space Station and a weapon of extreme force - a Mutation Ray - which he planned to use to complete his long-time plans for World Domination.

Upon his appearance, Dr. Sloth brought a new enslaved race to Neopia - the Grundos - many of which he had already mutated to serve his purpose. The grand history of this Slothy plot is not terribly important to the history of mutants themselves, except to say that the Mutation Ray was eventually destroyed by the Space Faerie who defeated Dr. Sloth and released the grundos as well. But what is important is that once Dr. Sloth's Mutation Ray was destroyed, Dr. Sloth had to develop another way of mutating the Neopian public and thus Transmogrification Potions were created and released by Dr. Sloth. Today, they are only attainable if Dr. Sloth appears and gives them to you in an SHH event, but at one time that was not the case. There will be more on that later, but the ultimate point is that Dr. Sloth - in all of his mad genius - is the individual responsible for creating Mutants, and thus in Neopian Year 2 Mutants were born, though unfortunately they did not enter Neopia under the best of circumstances. They were of course Dr. Sloth's evil minions, but now with the defeat of Sloth all of that has changed and a Mutant pet can be just as loving (or as evil) as any other pet!

Some people reacted badly and pounded their poor pets before realizing that the change was only temporary! Most, however, were relieved to find that it was just a joke and that their beloved pets were back to normal the next day. Of course realistically, they should have been ecstatic that their pets were Mutant for the day and should have hoped it remained permanent, but sadly not all people have been enlightened yet as to the greatness of Mutant pets!

Transmogrification Potions

So as we've already established that Transmogrification Potions were first seen in Year 2 and that they're all created by Dr. Sloth. But given that information you might be surprised to find that they were once sold by the noble Kauvara!

As it turns out, one night Kauvara was approached by a mysterious stranger who claimed that "Transmogrification Potions were the most phenomenal elixirs to ever hit the market." Kauvara purchased a small batch of the potions, but was horrified to find that they were transforming pets into mutated creatures, commonly considered to be "hideous monsters" by the general public.

She quickly discontinued them and they have never been sold in a Neopian shop. It was of course determined that this "Mysterious Stranger" was actually Dr. Sloth (or someone in his employ), but despite the fact that no shop actually stocks them anymore, they are still widely available because of the efforts of Dr. Sloth who gives them out as random SHH events to Neopians everywhere!

But even if Dr. Sloth doesn't visit you with an SHH and a free TP, be sure to check out the Trading Post, the Shop Wizard or the Auctions if you're looking for one of your own! ;)

I can't believe I let Dr. Sloth trick me into selling those potions!"

How to Create a Mutant

So now that you know where Mutants came from, you're probably wondering exactly how you can get one of your own. There are tons of options, but here we'll try and explain it as completely as possible so that you'll have all the information that you need to bring a Mutant into your life!

One great way to get a mutant is simply to buy a Tranmogrification Potion (TP) and then use it on your pet! Be careful not to feed it to your pet (if you have a grarrl or a skeith for instance) as some pets can eat it as if it were a food item without actually being transmorgrified. To use a TP all you have to do is buy it and then go to your inventory and click on the TP. Then from the drop down menu select "Use on PETNAME" and click submit! Next your pet will twist and mutate, but don't worry your pet is just fine - he or she is just being transmorgrified which is a really wonderful thing to have happen! ;)

Remember, that no matter what species your pet is to being with, when you use a TP on them they become that species. So if you used a Grarrl TP on a Red Kyrii, they would become a Mutant Grarrl!

Another way to get a mutant is simply to use the Lab Ray! You can get the lab ray by collecting all 9 of the Secret Laboratory Map pieces. Once you've completed the map you can zap your pet to your hearts content, but I'll wish you good luck on getting a mutant zap (especially if you're trying for a specific mutant zap) because it can definitely take a very long time to get the look you're going for!

Another way to get a mutant pet (and my personal favorite) is to Adopt!! Because of the unwarranted yet common distaste for Mutants, many mutants end up unwanted and in the pound or otherwise up for adoption! You can find tons of mutants up for adoption in places like billopan.com or neopound.com or most notably on our Mutant Adoption branch of the Mutant Militia! But this way you simply apply for a pet and if you're chosen to be the new owner you can successfully adopt a pet virtually free of charge and get the perfect mutant you've always wanted!

Wouldn't You Love a Mutant Like Me?!

Mutant Misunderstandings

Lots of people really seem to misunderstand mutants. Common myths and assumptions regarding Mutants are that they're gross, unclean, inferior, less intelligent, evil etc. But the honest truth is that Mutants can be just as intelligent and as sweet (or conversely as uneducated and as evil) as any other neopet. And while it's true that many Mutant pets may appear to be gross or unclean, the fact is that it is all in the eye of the beholder, and those are often one of a Mutant's endearing qualities. For instance, I've found that my Mutant Gnorbu Itcheth has remarkably intelligent fly assitanats who buzz about him all day keeping him on track with his busy Mutant model schedule. Furthermore, would you hate a Mastiff or a Great Dane simply because they have slobber issues? No of course not!

So just try to be open minded whenever you deal with mutants and follow the age old, valuable advice of not judging a book by its cover!
You wouldn't call us evil would you? *covers sibling's ears*

Mutant Activism

While I doubt anyone would have the audacity to pioneer for a Mutants Rights Act of 1865 or anything like that, there are quite a number of Neopians who are rightly concerned about the treatment of Mutants in greater Neopian society.

There can be no doubt that Mutants are underappreciated and the descriptions of the Mutants as perpetuated by TNT (I'm sad to say) are not particularly pleasant. And it's certainly common knowledge that many Transmogrification Potions are bought with the intent of only mutating their pet as a way to cheaply change species before the pet is painted into a more "popular" color.

But while the general beliefs about Mutants are slow to change, that doesn't mean that people like myself and hopefully you dear visitor can't do anything to help move it along. Below are a list of goals that we at the Mutant Militia and Museum would like to see achieved and below that are tips on things you can do to help spread the good word about Mutants!

Goals:

- Have a recognized mutant in a Neopets Plot (preferably as a hero)! There is Bruno of course but even on his Neopedia description he's described as simply being an "Ugly Blue Gelert". While I generally think that he probably classifies as a Mutant, it would be nice to have TNT say Bruno the Mutant Gelert. The same goes for the most recent Lost Isle Plot where the petpetpets, though to all appearances were mutant, were instead referred to as Monsterous!

- Get some Mutant Custom Clothes/Backgrounds and other Wearables! I know TNT has said that they're working on this but how much longer do we have to wait? Furthermore, it appears that mutant pets will never be able to use the other paint brush clothing items so Mutants could never be cross-painted royal while almost all other pets could. I'd like for TNT to work to make those paintbrush only colors like Royal available to Mutants (and to be fair to babies and maraquans too).

Things You Can Do:

- Well of course one of the best things you can do is to lead by example, adopt or create a Mutant pet for yourself and of course love said pet lots so you can show all of Neopia how deserving of appreciation Mutants really are!

- Show your mutant pride by using Mutant graphics on your lookups, petpages, shops, etc. You can find tons of Mutant graphics at the Mutant Media (see link above)

Famous Mutants

Below you'll find a directory of all the known (or at least those who are speculated to be) famous Mutants! If you know of a famous Mutant who should be included please be sure to neomail me so they can be included!!

Albert the Mutant Kacheek

A hideous curse has been placed upon Albert the Kacheek by the evil and bloated Esophagor.

Albert began his life as a spotted kacheek whose only real asperation was to be a master gardener. However, one day he was caught by the Esophagor who placed a curse on him and turned him mutant. Now, Albert lives his days fetching foods from the Mutant Graveyard of Doom for the Esophagor. To learn more about Albert you can read his Neopedia article or go play his game . . .
The Mutant Graveyard of Doom!

Bazri The Grundo

A proud warrior with nerves of steel, Bazri is no stranger to battle. He has served under Dr Sloths command since his masters first invasion of Neopia.

Bruno

This most handsome Gelert is arguably one of the more controversial famous mutants. This is becouse the jury is still out as to whether he is actually a Mutant or not because of conflicting evidence. Bruno is the brave hero of the Tale of Woe plot and was changed into his current form by a noctious potion. To all appearances he would seem to be mutant. However, on his Neopedia entry TNT only refers to him as an "Ugly Blue Gelert". That said TNT created a shop blog for Bruno that says (among other things) "It's tough being a mutant..."

Frankly, it would be nice if TNT could just come out and say one way or another whether Bruno is meant to be a true mutant, but I think for now the Mutant community is more than willing to adopt this lovable giant as one of their most famous Mutants! For further reading, you should pick up a copy of the Book of Bruno and check out his Neopedia article.

You can also get to know Bruno better by playing his game...
Bruno's Backwoods Breakaway!

Florg the Devourer

Yet another result of Dr Sloths evil experiments Florg has developed a penchant for petpets and will search the Space Station tireslessly until he finds some.

This Mutant Chia is easily one of the most famous Chias in all of Neopia! He even has his own chain of mainstream foods - including Florg O's Cereal! You'll also find plenty of toys featuring this petpet eating Chia. He really is quite a popular figure.
If you'd like to see him in action, you can go play his game . . .
Feed Florg!

Gargarox Isafuhlarg (Grundo Chef)

Grundo Chef has two loves in his life, making bizarre new recipes and playing Gormball. Sadly he is not too great at either, but he tries very hard. This innovative cook will mix anything together. He brought Spotted Pudding, Beef Rouladen and Scrambled Eggs A La King to Neopia, along with some of his less popular dishes.

Here are a few places you can learn more about Gargarox!
Grundos - Where Gargarox serves the best food in the galaxy!
The Gargarox Neopedia Entry

Ghartun The Grundo Commander

The slowest, strongest, and most brutal of all Grundo Warriors are elevated to the status of Commander. These elite troops serve Dr. Sloth to the bitter end.

Gors the Mighty

A giant mutated pygmy given super-strength, Gors rules over an ancient school long abandoned by those who studied there.

The Greedy Kadoatie

The incessant mewling of this Greedy Mutant Kadoatie has brought grown men to their knees as they clutch their wallets and pray not to lose their precious 5000nps! However, the Greedy Kadoatie exacts fees without sympathy. Despite the terror this greedy cretin has inspired in many Neopians, quite a fanbase has arisen as well sporting Greedy Kadoatie hats, t-shirts, banks and plushies!

Something has happened!
The incessant mewing of a Mutant Kadoatie drives you completely mad, and you give its owner 5,000 Neopoints to take it away!

But thankfully Neopians can now get a little bit of their own back by challenging this ferocious feline in the Battledome!

Harry the Mutant Moehog

This Mutant Moehog will be waiting for you in the Battledome for a 1 Player fight whenever you'd like! He probably will find your attacks a bit boring though. Don't take it personally though - he seems to think everyone is boring.

Battledome Information: Harry is an automatic challenger with a difficult level of 35.

The Mutant Aisha Twins

A hideous experiment gone wrong, these Aishas now roam the bowels of the space station looking for new victims.

The Mutated Chia

Back on September 7th, 2001, this Mutated Chia, who had previously only roamed the Haunted Woods, emerged and entered the Battledome. If you were ever lucky enough to find him, you could have fought him then before he eventually retired from the Battledome for good.

The Petpet Laboratory Kookith

Who doesn't love it when this adorable little Mutant Kookith zaps your petpet into a pile of soot?!? If you'd like to meet him in person, you'll need to get access to the regular Secret Laboratory and then collect all nine pieces of the Petpet Laboratory Map! But getting to see this zanny kookith and his miniature lab ray gun is entirely worht it!

Scraglox the Gigantic Mutant Kadoatie

On January 24, 2002 Scraglox was a Better than You challenger whom Neopians attempted to beat at the game Mutant Graveyard of DOOM!

SHH Grundo
Something has happened!
GRUNDO MUST EAT NEOPETS!!! GRUNDO FETCH NEOPETS FOR MASTER!

I don't know if anyone's really prepared to call this guy famous. I don't even know his name! But we sure see him a lot around the site! ;)

The Spirit of Slumber (Jubart Igig)

The Spirit of Slumber played a prominent role in the Tale of Woe plot. It was he who supposedly cursed the townspeople of Neovia, and who was ultimately able to undo the spell (sort of!). But more importantly for our purposes, you can clearly see that he is a Mutant Lupe (despite the cloak he wears!

Tale of Woe Mutant Hissi

This Mutant Hissi played an integral role in the Tale of Woe plot. Plot participants had to ask the Mutant Hissi which road to take, but the problem was that one of the hissi's always told the truth while the other always lied. Most people quickly realized that the Hissi on the player's right was the one who always lied, and thus advanced on. Now, you can remember this helpful (or not so helpful) hissi with this snazzy bobble head!

Truggdon the Grundo

... quitting Sloth's Army isn't really an option. However, after the invasion of Sakhmet, I knew there was no way I could continue be a part of what was going on. In Sakhmet, I saw families who'd lost their homes and had their businesses burned to the ground... it was the saddest thing I'd ever seen. So that's when I decided to to leave....

This Mutant Grundo has had quite a few career changes. He's spent time preparing gourmet food in Gargarox's famous kitchen, and he's also spent time in Sloths' Army. But he's likely best known for his success in the tug-of-war arena! He remains a crowd tug-of-war favorite, so be sure to root for him next time you're in the Lost Desert!
If you're interested, you can learn more about this adventuresome Grundo in his own Neopedia entry.

I don't care if you want my autograph! Get OUT of my kitchen!

Mutant Games

Below are a list of Neopian games that feature Mutants! Why don't you give some a try?! Though fair warning - they don't necessarily paint Mutants in the best light . . . *grumble*

Feed Florg

This awesome game featuring that dastardly and always hungry Mutant chia - Florg - requires you to help feed him all the petpets he wants!

Fetch!

In this game you play a bedraggled Mutant Blumaroo who has to fetch things for his overbearing master! Poor little guy!!

Jolly Jugglers

This games features a Mutant chia who was driven mad with jealousy of the Jolly Jugglers' skills and kidnapped their sister! Why Mutants always have to be the villains is beyond me, but if you want another game featuring a Mutant chia this'll do it for you! ;)

Korbats Lab

A mysterious evil lab contains the ingredients that Sloth needs to make his Transmogrification Potions, and it's up to you to break all the boxes before the Korbats and Spyders stop you! Though why you'd want to prevent the creation of TP's is beyond me!

Mutant Graveyard of Doom

A hideous curse has been placed upon Albert the Kacheek by the evil and bloated Esophagor. Fetch me my lunch or you will remain a mutant forever! You play Albert, and your job is to enter the Mutant Graveyard of Doom and collect enough food to appease the Esophagor. Now of course we all know that being a mutant isn't such a curse, but I suppose some other Neopians might be fooled . . .

*Remember: This game has been retired and can only be found in the Game Graveyard!

Did you know that Korbat's Lab is a Mutant Game?!?!

The Evolution of Mutants

Mutants have undergone a number of changes over the years. There have certainly been a number of small redraws, but there have also been some much significant alterations making a number of the origanl mutant versions completely unrecognizable from their modern versions.

For instance, here's a particularly old group photo of some mutants (taken from Wiki and PPT), showing the old pics of a number of Mutants which have been long defunct (Mutant Aisha, Kiko and an undetermined Mutant)
Yay! Someone used a TP on me!

When compiling data like this, especially data that's many years old, it's really impossible to do it on your own. Special Thanks

A huge thanks goes to my best friend Wtrswoopes! She and I were discussing the need for a new look for the Mutant Militia (and it's sister pages) and she graciously offered up her extremely advanced coding and graphics skills and so this newly designed Mutant Militia (and it's sister pages, which are also being re-modeled) was truly a joint effort between the two of us! My content, art and design ideas were combined with her amazing skill to bring forth the brand new directory you see before you! So thanks so much to you Swoopes because without you this page would never be as amazing as it is now! ;)
