Hi there guest! Want to advertise your agency? Want more people to come across your agency knowing they can find the perfect pet there? Well, I've started an Adoption Agency Directory - a one stop place for people wanting pets to search through many agencies at once to find their perfect pet! The directory will also be helpful for people who want to put their pet up for adoption, but want to find just the right agency for their pet.

I started this directory on February 23rd, 2007. There are currently 68 agencies listed, but I'm hoping to expand that number significantly.

Just to clarify - I don't own or work for any of these agencies, I just really enjoy telling people about them!

Now that the pound is back in full swing, many new agencies are popping up or being revived. I will be scouting out new agencies to add, yay! I will also start marking which agencies are active and which ones may not be. I don't want to discourage anyone from looking at these agencies, but if the owners have not logged onto Neopets for a while, I just want to let you guys know.

Also, I'm looking to find a guide on how to make your own adoption agency. My owner gets asked this a lot, and since she doesn't actually own an agency, sh really has no idea what makes one successful. If you have a guide, know of one, or plan on making one, please let my owner poissonneondn know!




About the Directory

You may be wondering what the point of an adoption agency directory is, since so many people post ads for their agencies on the boards. That might help a few people find pets they are interested in adopting, or are interesting in listing their pets with, but that one agency might not be the right agency for that particular person. People need options, and since there are tons and tons of agencies out there in Neopia, it can be hard to find the right one.

That's where the agency directory idea comes in. One place people can look at to find a list of agencies to check out for their adopting or pounding needs. To make it easier to see the information at a glance, I've listed the agencies in a table with the most useful information under headings (the kind of pets up for adoption, the kind of names of those pets, and the type of applications used to apply for those pets), as well as a column for additional information about the agency.

Note: The additional information listed is either what was provided to me by the agency owners, or is information that I feel is very important in regards to who can adopt or put their pet up for adoption. None of the information is based on my personal opinion, as I feel my opinion should not influence your choice in viewing the agencies. I want each agency to have the same chance at being viewed... no favoritism!

I've taken the time to contact the owners of these agencies, and they have kindly taken the time to answer my questions. The information is accurate to the best of my knowledge, though for some who were a bit vague on their answers the information might be a bit off. Still, the list allows you to have a quick glace and see which agencies are genuine possibilities for your needs. The links open in new windows, so you don't have to worry about backpaging to this list.

The agency update frequency/age column is meant to distinguish the currently active agencies from the haven't-been-updated-in-eons agencies. I don't want to take away any agencies because they haven't been updated in a while - you never know when they might get back. So here's the breakdown:

New - The agency has a clear indication it knows about the new adoption rules/transfer system, or it has recently been neomailed to me by the owners. I suggest you look at these agencies first.
Some - The agency doesn't have any of the above qualities, but is not a dead link and the owner has logged onto Neo within the past two months (60 days - sometimes people go on vacations!) I suggest you also look at these agencies and neomail the appropriate user if you are interested in any pets or having your pet listed.
Old - The agency is similar to the some agencies, but the owner has not logged on for 60 days or more. I want to keep these in case the user does come back, but if the link goes dead I'll be sure to delete it. You probably won't get much use from these agencies.

Have you searched through the list, but still can't find that Pirate Gnorbu? Or that Faerie Grundo? Give this a try - it's a wishlist for adopting a specific painted or limited edition pet! Basically, if you know what pet you want to adopt but are having trouble finding one, you can add your name to the list and someone who is pounding you will contact you! You wont get flamed for begging like you would if you asked for a pet on the help board, the person who is pounding their pet can find the perfect owner for it - everone wins!

Adoption Reminders

Just as a reminder (or new information for those new to adopting/pounding), there are certain risks in adopting and pounding pets:
  • Once a pet is in the pound, ANYONE can adopt it. If the pet was meant for you and you don't get it, you can try kindly asking the person who did if they can pound it again, but they have no obligation to give it to you. They adopted it, therefore they get to keep it, like it or not. Do not harass them - it will only get you in trouble.
  • There is a certain fee for both pounding and adopting pets. The pounding fee is a standard 250np, but the adopting fee can be quite expensive, depending on the level and color of the pet. Be sure to have lots on np on hand!
  • Remember, you are not allowed to charge anyone a fee for a pet, nor is anyone allowed to pay or bribe an owner for a pet.
  • The new transfer system is quite handy as it guarantees the safe arrival of the pet to the specified owner, but can only be used once a month. It also costs the owner 1000np to use, so don't be rude when applying!

Also keep in mind that most kinds of pets can only be adopted by users with accounts older than 4 months. Users with accounts younger than 4 months can adopt the following non-limited edition pets:
  • Those with a level of 1 or 2 (no higher)
  • Those that are the following colors: Checkered, Blue, Brown, Glowing, Green, Invisible, Orange, Pink, Purple, Red, Shadow, Silver, Skunk, Speckled, Split, White, Yellow

I'd be glad to post it, but to make sure the information is accurate (and to make it easier on me), filling out this fairly short questionnaire and neomailing it to my owner poissonneondn will be incredibly helpful. Please note the questionnaire is not intended to judge your agency, but rather it is meant to obtain details about your agency that I can post on this directory. Such information will be helpful for users looking for their perfect pet! As long as your agency follows Neopets rules, your agency will be put on this directory. (This means I cannot accept off-site located agencies).

The Questionnaire

1. What is the name of your agency?
2. What petpage is your agency on? Please provide the pet's name.
3. What kind of applications are required? (Neomail, petpage...other?)
4. Does your agency have only certain kinds of pets? (For example, only limited edition, only pirate... please be specific).
5. Does your agency have non-painted, non-limited edition pets up for adoption? (In other words, basic pets anyone can create).
6. Does your agency have only pets with no numbers or underscores in their names, or are all petnames welcome?

That's it, eight questions! Though my owner is usually on neopets everyday, sometimes it is just to do dailies, and she might not be able to post the newly added agencies right away, so please be patient and don't worry - your agency will be added.
