The Battledome

Hello guest, and welcome to my Newbie Battledome Help page! To start things off, I'm going to show you how to get to the battledome. It's easy! All you have to do is click on "shops" on the yellow sidebar, and then on the leaping purble cybunny. Tada! You're in the battledome. Once there, you will see a number of options. These are: status, equipment, 1 player, target pets, quickfight, challenge a pet, front page, news, battlepedia, and extras. Here is a brief rundown of what they all mean:
Status: This displays all of your pets' stats and scores. It will also show you if you have any challenges or are currently in a battle. You can go here to either enter a battle or withdraw from a one-player fight.
Equipment: This shows all of the weapons you have equiped on your pet. To unequip an item, just enter your PIN number (if you have one) and click on the weapon you want to remove.
1 Player: This is wear you fight a computer generated character and not another player. For your first fight, try fighting either punchbag bob or inflatable balthazar. They are both default challengers, and you don't need to do anything to get them.
Target Pets: This is a search engine for pets in the battledome. You can search based on their stats, pet name, or owner name.
Quickfight: This is wear you can fight other pets in the battledome. Make sure your pet is equipped, has full hp, and try to narrow the possible challengers down to someone with similar stats.
Challenge a Pet: This is where you can challenge a specific pet to a fight.
Front Page: This is the front page of the battledome.
News: This is a list of the most recent updates to the battledome.
Battlepedia: This is an index of all the weapons. It tells you the type of attack each weapon makes but it does NOT tell you how much damage each one will do and it doesn't list ALL of the weapons, just the most common ones.
Extras: This is fairly random. It has a contact form, and a link to the FAQ and battledome preferences.
There! Now for the rest... continue on, guest, continue on!

Etiquette

Now guest, I am going to tell you something very important, and may you never forget it. Never withdraw from a fight. There, I've said it. There are a few cases where you can withdraw honorably, but as I've said, there are very few. Loosing against a much stronger pet is not one of them. No matter how hopeless a fight is, you have to keep on fighting. If you stop fighting just because you are loosing, you are a sore looser. It is also reportable. Don't do it. The only time you can withdraw, and it is okay to do so, is if you opponent has stopped fighting, and it is clear they have stopped fighting. Give them a couple minutes; don't jump to conclusions.

Weapons

This is my list of recommended weapons. To fight, you must have weapons. Here are some of the cheaper ones, with an aproximate price and brief description of what they do. You can only equip eight items to your pet and only ONE freezing item is allowed. I would like to thank 12bt for pointing out the slime potion and lesser healing scroll.
Caustic Potion - This is a limited use healing item that will heal about 3 hp on your pet, and attack the other player at the same time. It is easily blocked, however, and can only be used once per battle. Currently, it is selling for about 250 np at the shop wizard.
Downsize! - This is a purely defensive item. It will block 50% of any attack, but can only be used once per battle. Currently, it is selling for about 12,000 np at the shop wizard.
Scarab Ring - This is a very good item to get. It has a good attack, and also defends. It is currently selling at the shop wizard for about 5,000 np.
Lightning Scroll - This is a good attack item. It is currently selling for about 5,500 np at the shop wizard.
Leaf Shield - This is a good shield that sells for about 11,000 np at the shop wizard. You should get this as a backup in case for the scarab ring, since that can attack and defend.
Bone Sceptre - This is a nice, cheap attack item. It is currently selling for about 300 np at the shop wizard.
Obsidian Dagger - This is another good attack item. It is currently selling for about 1,400 np at the shop wizard.
Improved Lightning Beam - A good attack weapon for the price. It currently costs around 1,000 np.
Slime Potion - This is a healing item. It will heal your pet 10 hp and costs about 1,400 np at the shop wizard.
Lesser Healing Scroll - This is another healing item that will heal 25 hp. It costs about 2,200 np at the shop wizard.

Abilities

There are certain abilities that will help your pet in the battledome. You can see a list of them here and activate them for your pet here. You must activate the ability by clicking on it before it will work. There are only a few abilities worth getting. I have listed five of them below.
Bless - Bless lets your pet heal a random amount of hp. Your pet must be level 7 before it can get this ability. You need three bottled light faeries to get this ability. Each bottled faerie costs about 4,000 np.
Burrow - You can only give this ability to your pet once they are level 10. It protects against fire, air, water, earth, and physical attacks. It does not protect agains light or darkness. You have to use four bottled earth faeries to give your pet this ability. One bottled earth faerie costs about 4,200 np at the shop wizard.
Heal - This is a lot like the ability "bless", only it isn't as strong and you can give this ability to your pet even when they are only level 1. Also, you only have to buy one bottled water faerie to get the ability. A bottled water faerie costs about 4,000 np at the shop wizard.
Drain Life - Drain life lets you steal 11% of you opponents hp. As a beginning battler it is essentially useless, but later on when you are fighting pets with higher hp it will come in handy. Your pet must be level 21 to use this ability and you need a whopping seven bottled dark faeries. Each one costs about 3,900 np.

Training
Generally, your pets will start out with poor stats. But not to worry! You can always train them and make them better fighters. But before we start, here is a quick rundown of what everything is: (I put a * next to the things I recommend training.)
*Level: This is key to training at the training schools because the amount of strength, endurance, agility, and defence you can train relies heavily on your pets level. Which faerie abilities you can give your pet is also dependent on their level.
*Hp: This is your pets hit points, or amount of damage he/she can take in the battledome. In the training schools, this is often referred to as "endurance", but we'll get to that later.
*Strength: This determines the amount of damage your pet can inflict. A high strength wont do damage without weapons though! Also, it only comes into play if you do "fierce attack", "jump and attack", "normal attack", or "cautious attack".
*Defence: This determines how well your pet can defend him/herself from attack. It only comes into play if you do "defend".
Movement: This doesn't do anything. It is also referred to as "agility" in the training school, so don't get confused. Don't bother to train this one, either.
Intelligence: This doesn't affect your pet in the battledome.
You got all that? Now we can move onto the actual training methods!
Coltzan's Shrine: Coltzan's shrine is random, random, random. It's free though! It improves: level, strength, defence, and movement. It also might give out random items ranging from burnt food to a dubloon coin, heal your pet, fill your pet up with food, or do nothing. It is located in the lost desert, and you can go once per day. Even if it's free, and I definitely recommend going, it isn't *really* a training method. If you want to be serious, try some of the other methods.
The Krawk Island Academy: This my personal favorite because a) it's cheaper than the mystery island training school b) you can train your pets for free on their pet days and c) you can withdraw from a class if you don't want to pay. The swashbuckling academy trains all of the stats listed above (except intelligence, which isn't even a battledome stat), but will only train your pet up to level 40. You pay in dubloons.
Mystery Island Training School: This is more expensive than the Krawk Island training school, BUT it trains your pets twice as fast and you can train here up to level 250. (It trains all of the same stats, too.) It is located on Mystery Island and you pay for your classes in codestones.
Secret Ninja Training Schol: If you're training your pets here, then you know you are a serious battler. You can only train your pets if they are over level 250, and you have to pay in the rare red codestones. It is a hidden link on mystery island, go to Belle's page if you want to know how to get there.
The Secret Lab Map: Warning! This is an extremely risky way to train your pet, it is completely random, and I take no responsibility whatsoever for what happens! The labray can (and will, if you do it long enough) change your pet's gender, change your pet's species, and/or change your pet's color. It might even make your pets stats go down! But more on that later. You have to buy all nine pieces of the secret lab map (item: Secret Laboratory Map) before you can use it. Prices generally range from 50,000 np to 60,000 np, so it might take a while to save up. In the long run, it saves np because you don't have to cough up np for codestones, dubloons, etc. (I don't recommend doing this AND training normally, by the way...) and because it might paint your pet a rare color. Some colors, in fact, are only available from the secret lab map! Here's the catch. The labray may improve your pet's level, endurance, strength, defence, and agility, but there is also a chance (a smaller one than them improving) that it will decrease your pet's level, strength, defence, and agility. It never lessens hp though, so no need to worry on that count! You can get to the secret lab map through games - puzzles - treasure maps - laboratory. Once you have the map, you can use it once a day forever and ever. If you want to know more, I recommend going to JustToClearThingsUp's petpage. Disclaimer! I am in no way responsible for the contents of this petpage! I did not make it!

Aftermath

First of all, I would like to say:
If you won: congratulations!
If you lost: better luck next time!
Win or lose, however, your pet will still be injured after the fight, unless it was a really lopsided fight. To heal your pet, all you have to do is go to the Healing Springs in faerieland every half hour (which is free), or pay for a healing potion, such as healing potion i, which is not free. Or, to save on time and neopoints, if your pet already has more than one hitpoint left, you can always do what tee_twi918 was kind enough to suggest: just go here and fight inflatable balthazar. (Don't use 1-use weapons! That'd just be a waste.) Your pet will automatically be brought back to full hitpoints when they win. (Inflatable Balthazar has no weapons and only 1 hp.)
