The Deathly Circus

I was not always a freak of nature. I was not always a pupil-less, tatoo-covered, homicidal killer with a vile sense of humor. I was not always a murderer...

The Deathly Circus
When I was a mere pup, my mother left me to die. My father had gone before I had been born and my mother never actually got over his departure. I was born with silky black fur and trusting red eyes that shined, not with blood-lust, but with a gentle understanding of the world. I had pupils then, too. After my mother left me on the outskirts of a large, grassy plain, I learned to fend for myself. It was a sad, glum day when she left me... It was on one of these days, three years later, that I woke up to find a monstrous circus tent, literally only a few feet from where I lay. I was in need of shelter, maybe I could find a job there.. I entered the tent.
Sickly Candles

It took a few moments for my eyes to adjust to the gloom. The inside was enormous! It was at least 400 feet around the perimeter. Orbs of light, that I later realized were candles, lined the walls. Pipe organ notes hovered in the air like the smoke from the candles. I saw a few shadowy figures walking about in the gloom. I called out. My voice sounded pitifully quiet but someone must have heard me because the organ music stopped suddenly. A complete silence enveloped me giving the impression that I had gone deaf. A figure walked towards me. A weezened face apeared in my field of vision. I scrambled back with a yell of fright. The creature, I realized, was another, extremely old, lupe. He smiled a toothless smile at me and chuckled silently to himself. I realized he was actually bending down to get a good look at me and, oddly, he stood on his hind legs like a human. His forepaws were actually more arm-like than a lupe's. He wore a tall purple and black-striped top hat. The black eyes gazed gently on me and a cracked voice said "and who might you be, young 'un?" I gaped for a moment before saying warily "Sevile, sir. Please, I came to seek work. I don't have anywhere elso to go!" The old lupe, who I assumed was the ringleader, smiled again and said "Alright then sonny, but first let's take you to the mistress so you can explain why a young whelp like yourself is wandering around the Black Circus." I followed the Old Lupe to the back of the tent where a smaller tent stood. I followed him into it, tail tucked between my legs. A strange site awaited me. The inside of the tent was swathed in shawls and cloth hanging, covered in beads and embroidered in the oddest designs. A round table stood in the center and a robed figure, another old lupe, sat at it. She was conversing with the Ringleader in an animated, almost comical manner. The Ringleader grumbled something back to her, then stood and said "Sevile, I'd like you to meet the reverent Seer Gloriia, also my lovely wife and tent manager." The Seer rose slowly, she also stood on her hind legs, and curtsied. An overpowering waft of strong perfume swept over me like a wave. It was hard to breath.
