Story

A long time ago, I lived with my sister, Eniiu, and our parents in a huge underwater palace. They were the leaders of a very large Peophin herd called the Argos. There were dozens of members, making it the biggest Peophin herd under the sea. But my father developed enemies, feeling he was superior to other tribes because we had more members. My father was a very competitive, arrogant Peophin; everything he did was a competition. I thought it was ridiculous, as did Eniiu, so we left one night. Good thing I did too, because a few day later, the palace was attacked by multiple herds my father had attacked. Everyone in the palace was killed. They knew about Eniiu and me and came looking for us, so we had to separate. After a few days of living by myself, I stumbled upon a small herd consisting of only 4 Peophins. That's where I met Selea, my mate. Her parents and her adoptive sister, Daiveni, who had strange powers that made her age slower than everyone else, were part of the herd too. After living with them, Selea and I thought it was best to start our own family. But Selea couldn't bare leaving her younger sister behind, so she came with us too. We had a baby girl named Arainia after a year or two and Daiveni was chosen to be the godmother. Arainia grew up fast and she too found a mate just as I had done. His name is Caetus, a wonderful stallion whom I've taken a liking to. Caetus has a brother, Pathenon, who also joined out herd. So, just like that, we developed a small herd of six Peophins. A few more joined, my sister and other Peophins looking for a place to call home. We called our herd Ombra. Arainia also found she was with child and so life was great. I was the leader of a thriving herd and about to be a grandpa, a young one. When the day came of the birth, I was completely overwhelmed, as was everyone else in the herd. The little foal was as black as night, giving him the name Midnight. He was the most adorable little thing, and everyone loved him. Selea often teased me saying that I was super glued to him. Oh, did I love him so. But, with good things, there are bound to be bad things. Our herd grew popular and the enemies of my father heard about us. They had found me at last. To get back at me for what my dim minded father did, they did the most unspeakable deed I've ever come to know. While Caetus was out guarding the herd land one night, Arainia and Midnight were left alone in their den. Arainia woke up to the screaming of her child in the distance. She frantically swam to Daiveni's den. She asked Daiveni if she had seen Midnight but Daiveni had not. Arainia and swam away, tears in her eyes and Daiveni quickly followed, but was not fast enough. A couple minutes after she had swam away, we heard an ear piercing scream I will never forget. It woke up the entire herd. Everyone searched the lands for both Midnight and Arainia, but neither were found. The herd broke up after that and Caetus blamed himself for his mate's and son's deaths. He lives by himself now, far away, though we still consider him a member of the herd. Hopefully he'll come back to us. I grew into a state of depression for a few months, but I'm better now. With the help of my family and friends, I was able to come back. But just as things were starting to look up, I lost Selea too. She had fallen ill and did not make it. This time, I kept my head up, not wanting to fall into a depression again. Now, the herd is thriving again. All we need now is for Caetus to come back...
