Igloo Garage Sale - The Game

Welcome guest, Mika and Carassa need your help, but are you up to the job? If you need a helping hand you've come to the right page!
20/10/06 - Igloo Garage Sale has been updated! This page still stands - I just need to change pictures and maybe a few finer details. :0)

The background: Mika and Carassa live in a little igloo up on Terror Mountain. How they got their seemingly endless supply of items is unknown, but they plan on moving (to retire?) and are selling off the lot - that's where you come in.
The Basics: You are Mika and Carassa chucks items down to you. The arrow keys move you left and right, whilst the up key can be used to jump. Drop five items in a row and that's the end of it. All you need to do is position Mika under the falling items to catch them when they near the ground - sometimes easier said than done.

The first thing to note is item specifics. Firstly, how much is each item worth? Take a look at the table on the right.

All of the items you want to go near are listed with their values - if you see a piano or a bomb steer well clear. A piano will crush Mika and end the game (leaving poor Carassa all alone and facing a murder charge), whilst a bomb will temporarily disable you - you will be unable to move freely and will miss items. Sometimes getting hit by a bomb is unavoidable, but really try to avoid them in the later levels, as one hit could mean missing five items and ending your game.

To say the obvious - if you are sure you cannot catch all the items coming down on you, aim to catch the most valuable items. For example, aim for a dubloon rather than an umbrella.

Don't go near the pianos; sometimes it 'knocks' you dead even if you are not directly underneath it. Don't risk sliding under one.

The table is slightly outdated, but TNT didn't replace it! The item values are the same, they just look a bit more cartoony; dubloons are still worth 50 points etc.

Sliding and Jumping: Sliding becomes easier as you practice. Always be at the ready with both the left and right arrows, so you can attempt to reverse the slide if you feel you are going too far. Anticipate the slide - after playing a few times you should have a rough idea of how far and how fast Mika will slide and can take that into account when aiming to catch items.

It is possible to slide under a bomb, as long as you are sure that it won't hit Mika's head on the way.

Jumping can be used if you need to catch items quickly that are at opposite ends of the screen. It is, however, personal preference. I find it easier not to jump at all as I find it slow and unpredictable. If a slow item is falling and then Carassa chucks down a super fast item at the other end of the screen I prefer to slide across and catch that item and then go back and catch the slow one. Try out jumping when you've mastered sliding to see whether it's for you.

Timing and Score: Time and score are both displayed at the bottom of the screen, with score on the left and timer (along with stage) in the middle. You are now given 3 seconds to get ready for each level - this is particularly handy if you are partial to drinking tea/snacking between levels, as you are sure not to miss the beginning of the next level.

The items already dispatched by Carassa will continue to fall after the level time has ended, so be sure to catch them. Levels 1-6 last for 29 seconds and then each level after that is five seconds longer - level 7 is 34 seconds, level 8 is 39 seconds etc. All levels last for 30 seconds. The later levels seem even longer than they are because you are catching so many more items.

Your score can be increased largely by the end of level bonus. If you catch all of the items chucked down by Carassa, excluding pianos and bombs your score for that level will be doubled. Don't worry if you miss an item on a low level - if you catch all the items in the level after that one, your score from both levels will be doubled.

Dropping an item will mean a 2 point reduction. A good tip here is to click send score as soon as your game has ended (if you plan on sending that score at all). Otherwise you will lose 2 points per item that falls after the five limit - this often happens when you finally lose on the higher levels.

The Dubloon Myth? People have told me that typing dubloon or dubloondubloondubloon (or other slight variations) before clicking 'play game' will increase your chances of getting dubloons (50 points). I don't know whether it actually does or not. I have tried typing 'dubloondubloondubloon', but the amount of dubloons I get seem to be random, regardless of whether or not I've typed anything. What happens for you?

Anything to add? Any info on the Dubloon myth? Feel free to neomail me. The information here was written by sapphireace© - please don't copy any part of it; link to this page, by all means. :0)
