--Introduction--
You stumble along the soft sandy dunes, peering through the darkness. The only light comes from the full moon and millions of tiny starts twinkling above you in the inky black sky. You look around, knowing you're lost, and wondering if there might be anyone you could ask for directions...
You crest a tall dune and look over the valley stretching before you. You are met by a vast, bleak nothingness of dry rolling dunes and craggy rocks jutting out of the smooth sand. You shiver, suddenly aware of just how alone you really are. It's getting colder and darker and you wonder what will become of you...
Suddenly there is a dull thump behind you. You turn, startled, and see a sharp dagger embedded in the sand by your feet. It glitters menacingly in the moonlight. Alarmed, you look up, following the path of the dagger. It leads you to a lithe, shadowed figure crouching a ways down the ridge of the dune.
When he sees that you have noticed him, it takes him hardly seconds to bound over to where you stand. You freeze, too frightened to run. The figure reveals himself to be a Kyrii. His muscles are toned and sculpted from what you assume to be a long and rigorous life in the brutal desert. You gulp and the Kyri bares his teeth slightly. However, he does not attack, only regards you distastefully as he yanks his dagger back out of the sand.
I thought you were a guard. He says in a low, sullen voice. He polishes the dagger briefly on his thick blue pants before sliding it back into its sheath with a click.
You shouldn't be wandering alone at night unless you want to end up dead. He shakes his head abruptly, letting his long, thick red braid swing back and forth like a whip.
Now that I look at you, He says, appraising you with glowing golden eyes,
You don't look like you could be dangerous if you tried.
He turns and heads down the dune. As a chill wind picks up from your right, you get the feeling he is done with you. You sigh and cross your arms. You are interested to see the Kyrii look up and cease his retreat. You are even more surprised when he turns to you and becons you with an impatient wave of his arm.
Well come on. That wind's a sign of a sandstorm brewing. You won't want to stay out here, unless you want your skin burned off of you by the sand. This doesn't sound at all appealing to you, but a small smirk creeps across the Kyrii's face.
Where are we going? You ask him.
To my cave. It's the only shelter for miles. He replies without looking at you.
...Why are you helping me? You ask, genuinely curious.
Because that's my roof you were loitering on and I don't want to deal with a dead body in the morning. Though the sands would probably carry you away anyway.
You feel a little sick at this last statement. There is little time to brood, however, as the harsh grinding of stone on stone causes you to look up. You see the Kyrii rolling away a large stone to reveal the entrance to a cave. When the stone is moved aside, he growls and grabs your collar, pulling you in.
Now lay low, shut up, and don't snoop. There are some cushions to your left. You're out of here first thing tomorrow morning. He turns away from you.
Oh, and if you must, call me Oskello. He adds before moving to the other end of the cave. You sigh, suddenly left to your own devices to observe your surroundings.

--About Me--
If you've think I've had an easy time of it in my life, you'd be wrong. I got the short end of the stick from day one, when my good-for-nothing parents left me for dead on some woman's doorstep. They had a sense of irony it seems, because they left me with a beautiful gold necklace and nothing else. Luckily some orphanage took me in, but I got out of there as soon as I could to rough it on my own.
I find I don't get along with others too easily, which is why I keep to the shadows and steal from them. Just because I don't like them doesn't mean I don't like what they own. I make a living taking what I need. All the treasure I don't sell for food, I keep hidden. Don't think for one moment I'll tell you where.
One of my favorite things to do is play my bone flute on top of a dune at night. The eerie notes floating over the hills often suit my dark mood. I also like leaping across the building tops in Qasala when all the other Neopets are sleeping. Nothing tones muscles like that.
I am a pessimist; I know that. I don't have a lot of hopes for my future. I just take life a day at a time, not really caring about planning for what might come or bothering to make things better. I figure I'll always be alone, and unhappy, because everything makes me unhappy, so what's the point in trying to be otherwise?

--My History--
My history isn't a happy one, but then again, whose ever is? My parents, as I said, left me alone to die. No, I don't understand it either. I guess they were just even more heartless than I am. What's worst is that they didn't even give me a clue as to who they were or how to find them, so I was never able to get revenge. I don't even know if they're alive. If they are, though, I hope they're suffering.
Anyway, after I left the stupid orphanage, where they fed you slop and watched your every move, I made a home for myself in an abandoned building overlooking Qasala. It didn't take me long to figure out how stupid and careless most Neopets are, especially the wealthy ones. I stole all the food and clothing I needed from the greedy vendors during market day. When I got better at thieving, I began to steal gold and jewelry. I liked the way it shone in the sunlight. Soon there was hardly a pocket in Qasala I hadn't picked.
As much as I hate to admit it, though, I still had a lot to learn. I would probably have ended up a skin on some palace guard's back if it hadn't been for Azale. Now there was a thief. He was a Kyrii, like me, but infinitely stronger and craftier. He took me in because he said I reminded him of himself at my age. I moved in with him and he began to teach me everything I know today, right here in this very cave. It was odd living so far away from other Neopets. I'd grown accustomed to the constant noise and commotion. However, I soon learned to love the quiet power of the broad, open desert, and I could never go back now.
One night, when I was around fifteen, Azale awoke me in a hurry. He told me to be quiet, and pushed me out the back entrance to our cave. Bewildered, I scrambled over the rocks to where I could look down over the front entrance. I hid immediately, horrified as I saw Azale fighting off five angry Neopets. By the looks of the wagons behind them they were merchants--very drunk merchants. Azale knew what he was doing, but there were five of them and they had much finer weapons. I ached to help Azale, but he had made me promise on my honor that I wouldn't interfere. And so, I had to watch in horror as the cretins killed my teacher, brother, and only friend.
Somehow those merchants found out about me, and they pursued me for days. I was reaching the end of my rope and thought about expiring in the sand just to be done with it when a brave Anubis came to my rescue.
He was a handsome brute, large for an Anubis, and red as freshly spilt blood. He wasted no time in going for my pursuers. Seeing him fight so valiantly incited revenge in my heart, and I took up my dagger and fought alongside him. Soon all five of the evil merchants lay dying in the brutal sun, their blood soaking into the sand as payment for what they had done.
I think I went mad for a while after that. I don't really remember much, only that the Anubis kept me alive. He brought me meat and led me to oasis where I could drink. The days went by in hot blurs. I lived like an animal, savagely hunting prey with the Anubis by day and burrowing into the sand by night.
I don't know how long I was like that, only that eventually my memory returned to me and I remembered that this was not how I had lived before. I somehow found the cave again. It was hard to go back, but I felt like I needed to. I named the Anubis Khalil, meaning "friend," because he was one. My one any only. I stole a jewel encrusted collar off of some spoiled Warf and gave it to him. It looks much better on him anyway.
The two of us fell into a routine which we've been in ever since. He comes with me on my treasure hunts, and has saved my neck several times again. That's how we live now. I don't foresee it ever changing. Not that I'd want it to anyway. Dreams are for those who haven't experienced life's cruelty yet. I see no point in hoping for change. The mountains of gold I've acquired over the years are my only love, and the only one I'll ever need.

--Kel's Stories--
Eventually, Kel will have stories here illuminating certain moments in his past, and possibly his future. When they are written, you will find the links here.

--Family--
Kel knows nothing of his real family, only that whoever they were, they gave him the golden necklace that he keeps hidden well in the depths of his treasure room. As far as adoptive family goes, he chooses not to associate with them, though there are a few he has come to respect somewhat.
Eynkido
had little difficulty befriending the surly bandit, as he too spent a part of his life learning how to survive alone in the desert. The two are often together, usually bickering. Kel maintains his dour mask, but in truth he's always been glad of the Acara's company.

Kel holds an odd sort of respect for the lady pirate
Xyldra.
Her forward and rowdy behavior can be a little too much for him, but he knows a good thief when he sees one. He appreciates her ability to get what she wants, even if her methods aren't exactly to his taste. He lets her do her own thing and doesn't complain, just as long as she keeps a respectable distance.

No one has ever taken Kel off guard as well as the eccentric
Morhg.
In truth, Kel despises him, but is so alarmed by the Scorchio's odd and unpredictable behavior that he is, for once, cowed. Kel does his best to avoid Morhg and secretly wishes that he would disappear as quickly as he came, but Eynkido likes him, and the undead entertainer doesn't seem to be going anywhere fast.

--Friends--
A loner by nature and bitter hearted, Oskello has few to call friend. However, even he has met a few who, through time, have managed to mean something to him.
Same
didn't exactly make a great first impression on Kel, though he was no gentleman either. They muscled up to each other until it escalated enough that Kel threw up his hands in disgust and backed off. The small part somewhere inside of him that cares about others demanded he take her in, seeing as she was only a child. That was the beginning of a very interesting friendship that eventually led to him adopting her as a 'successor' of sorts. He'd never admit it, but he's probably quite attached to her by now.

It was a curious instance indeed that brought
Thea into Kel's life. He captured the helpless mermaid on a rare visit to the coast, determined to sell her in the Sakhmet black market. A cloaked stranger questioned the blackness of his deed and he slowly realized he could not do such a thing, but that he was also not willing to part with her yet. The enchanted spring in his cave became her home during the day when her legs turned back to fins. His fixation on the creature resulted in an extended captivity, during which the two began to slowly learn the others' language. Such a creature belongs to the sea, however, and eventually even he could not longer keep her from it. He let her go, but any who took the time to look would see clearly that her absence still wounds him greatly.

-Companion-

Khalil has been a savior for Kel in many ways, not only protecting him in his youth from other bandits but also providing much needed company during the Kyrii's loneliest moments. The large, ferocious Anubis never seemed to have a reason for protecting Kel, but he's done so faithfully for many years. He acts as a monitor for the brazen Kyrii as well, as he is not likely to anger unless someone poses an actual threat. Kel prizes Khalil as his attack dog, but the Anubis would probably never harm anyone just because Kel wanted him to. He also acts as an indicator of character, seeing through even the cleverest of facades. It is his judgment that has often helped Kel allow what friends he has to ever get close to him.

--Role Play--
So you want to role play with Kel, huh? Don't say I didn't warn you...
If you really want to role play with him, there are a few things to keep in mind. Just because
you know all about his past and such doesn't mean your pet does. Remember, he's a dangerous, angry bandit conditioned to harsh environments. He's very aggressive, very skilled, and honestly a little scary. Don't pretend your pet isn't at all phased by him unless they've got, like, a genie protecting them or something.
Kel isn't the type to form lasting friendships. You'll really have to work to get him to keep talking to your pet if they don't have something he actively wants. Don't get discouraged! He really can be a good sort if you give him reason to care about or respect you. Just don't expect friendship or anything more right off the bat.
As far as love goes, don't count on anything. It's true that underneath the vicious exterior Kel is a good guy, but he's still hurting from Thea's disappearance. It would take someone incredibly sweet or strong willed to get anywhere near his heart.

RP FAQ to find out everything you need to know about role playing with one of my pets, as well as a bit of extra information about Kel.
