Suddenly, there is a sound from behind you. Your tranquility was broken as you turn around sharply, eyes darting back and forth for the source of the distration. Yet, nothing comes to your ears. You look on for a few moments longer, and then shrug, thinking it no more then a stray wind in the trees. As you turn around, you are quickly proven wrong. There, before you sits a large, odd looking bird type animal. She is about the size of a turkey, containing feathers about the same hue as one, all over her body, yet her face looked like that of a lizard. It was pale and leathery, as were her feet, and the three clawed apendages on her wing bends. Brown tips of feathers lead to beautiful transisting shades of green on her wings and tassle. She whips her tassle towards your view with a lizard like stump on the end of it. Then, there on the very edge of the feathers lay a marking, almost like that of an eye upon her tail. The outline black, yet the inside was a beautiful, shimmering blue-green in hue.
I hope you enjoyed my pool human, but now you must leave. I do not take kindly to your species.
The creature said in an enchanting, yet forceful voice. Small, pointed teeth hung from under her lip as her bright, orange eyes stared deeply into yours.
Snapping back to attention you get up, wet feet now dripping a puddle under you on the grassy earth.
Oh my! I'm sorry...I-I didn't know this was your pool.
You say hurriedly as you collect your things, an applogetic feature all over your body it seemed. The odd creature snorted as it's nostrils flared slightly, shimmering talons digging into the earth.
Cooperative. I like seeing that in a human. Most only shoo me away.
She suggested, almost as if she was trying to take a slightly formal tone to ease your worry. You look back to her, smiling kindly as you start to put your shoes back on, water still dripping from your bare feet. You want to say something, but before you can, the creature looks to you, tilting it's head in a curious manner.
Human, where do you come from? How did you find this place?
She asks, intrested in how a mer human had found HER pool.
Oh, I was just wandering about and heard this waterfall.
You explain, guesturing to the still spraying falls beside you as the sight of it made you smile all the more. The creature nodds, understandingly.
I see....I suppose then..You are a listener, eh?
She asks, a slight glimmer in your eyes. You look back to her, confused slightly, yet you put a hand behind your head, looking embrassed, feeling complemented somehow.
I guess so..
You say, nodding and looking back to her as you once again admire her unqie stature and colors. The bird/lizard seemed to be exicted about this.
Well then, we have some in common. Come, I shall allow you to stay and enjoy my pool on one condition...you listen to my story. The one that has been forgotten for millions of years, and yet told all through history.
She said, fluttering her wings as her claws grapsed your shoe string, motioning for you to take your seat back down by the waterfall.
You smile, looking back down to her with exictement and intrigue.
Alright! I'll listen..
The leader of the Archea-Pteri clan, Sergaku, knew that their life styles could not survive on a "kill or be killed" basis, and so he told the Archea-pteris that they must move away from this jungle, less they become extinct. Most of the Pteris went with him, yet some stayed behind, not wanting to leave their anscteral home that they had claimed as their own.
And so, they dwelled there, living in secret away from the world, knowing nothing of its happenings. Until one day..the day I was born. I was born to the great great great grandson of Sergaku, Merage, and his mate Serlou. I was a wonderful triumph in the roost, for I was the first born in many long months. They whole clan rejoiced, celebrating my birth and forgetting their troubles. I was alive only a few weeks for the rejoicing, thinking it a wonderful time. Yet...this was to be their downfall.
Shortly after the rest of the roost had settled down to rest after the first day of my birth, there began to be new sounds to the forest. These, over the weeks, became no more then routine sounds. We thought it nothing, just another sound of the night..but we were wrong. One night, the loud rummbleing that had insuded for weeks, was close this time. It seemed to shake the whole forest, awakening the pteris. From the bushes crept a large, horrid metal creature that was consuming the tress around us. It destoryed our homes and our land, breaking through the jungle underbrush. My family didn't know what to do. I was still to young to fly yet, and they could not move the nest on their own. The other pteris, that had been so loyal to their leader, had now fled, saving their own skins, or so they thought. My mother, in the scramble to get away, had been seperated from my father and I. The metal monster was getting ever closer, and we were running out of time. So, my father did the only thing that he had known to do. He sheilded me. He covered my fragile young body with his, protecting me from the force of the metal monster. I didn't know what was happening, and before I could do anything more, it grew dark.
When awoke, hours later, there lay my father, spralled out on the ground, looking so weak..and helpless. I blinked twice, getting out of the nest to stummble over to him, nudging him with my snout. He didn't move. I tried again, this time letting out a plaintif cry for him. There was no answer, no movement. My father was dead. I was too young at the time to grasp this, so I moved onward_, still doddling along on my unbalanced wings, falling to the ground many times. I searched in vain, none of my roost had survived. I was the only one left alive from that metal monster..
I still remain alone to this day, never really knowing if they are alive or not. Perhaps..the others that ran away were still off somewhere..waiting for me to find them.

Thankful that she would take the time to do this, you follow her odd hobbling as you try to meanuever through the underbrush, pushing apart leaves and branches that blocked your path. You remain silent as the darkness creeps in around you. Starting to get a little nervous you walk faster, almost bumping into your guide. She looks back to you, slightly annoyed, yet it seems to quell as she stopps, fluttering into the trunk of a nearby tree, clinging on effortlessly.
Well then. Here you are, and not a moment to soon..You better hurry home guest..
She states, looking at you with glowing eyes in the dim light of the moon. You start to walk forward, but then a thought came to your mind. How did she know your name? You hadn't said it earlier..Yet, as you turn around to ask, she was gone.
Lingering for a few seconds you look deep into the forest, as if trying to glance any movement that the strange pteri might make. Sighing, you eventually move on, walking down an empty path that you believe is the way home..
