1337	boards	1337 means "lEET", from "leet," from "elite," and now means a superior gamer, with connotations of intelligence and daring. It was originally used by computer hackers, when early messaging programs wouldn't allow certain words, phrases, and letter combinations. A whole alphabet and slang language grew out of this, including using numbers to represent letters and words. No, not chat speak; chat speak is lazy.

AA	boards	Adoption Agency. They collect painted or well-named pets from the pound and then turn around and "offer" them for adoption. Usually require applications and other hoops.
AAA	games	Aristotle A. Avinroo. A 1337 gamer, AAA hosts game competitions. Beat his score... if you can. His little sister Abigail also gives out challenges for those who aren't up to big brother's superior skill level.
Anthro	roleplaying	Means "human-like". Anthro characters walk on their hind legs and use their front legs as arms.
Application	boards	Also, "App". When someone wants to pound their pet but wants to decide who gets it, they make you create an application (either petpage or neoMail). This takes a lot of your time, and there's still no guaratee that you'll get the pet.	Sagewood
Auto	trades	Offer what is listed and they'll accept.
Auto-		In front of another word (like "buyer", "adopter", etc.), Auto indicates an illegal program. If someone is offering one, report them.
Avatar	Avatars	Same as "Avvie" or "Av". Picture next to your name on the Boards or in neoMails.	Avvy

Background	boards	A background is a color or picture on top of which you put all your information on a petpage, lookup, description page, etc. For example, my background is blue. (Please note the "g". It is not a "backround"; that doesn't even make sense.)
BC	boards	See Beauty Contest.
Beg	boards	To ask for something (item, NPs, pets) that doesn't belong to you. Begging is against the Rules and is spam.
BD	battledome	Means "Battledome". Your pet can fight in the Battledome. To find the battledome challengers, check out Nangauta's petpage.
Beauty Contest	Beauty Contest	Also, "BC". You can draw and enter your pet in the Beauty Contest every week. Advertise on the BC Board.
BT	boards	Brain Tree. To do his quest, you must do 2 quests for the Esophagor.
Bump	boards	Whenever a new post is added to a topic, that topic moves up to the top of the list. So people post "bump" to "bump" their topic to the top of the list. Some people say it can stand for Bring Up My Post. Before you "bump", though, give people a chance to actually type out their reply, please.
Buyable	trades/shop ads	Item is usually UnBuyable (UB), but they're offering it for less than 100,000 NPs.

CATFB		Chomby and the Fungus Balls. A Neopian band.
Codestones		Rocks with symbols carved on them. Regular (tan) codestones are used as payment in the Mystery Island Training School. Red codestones are used as payment in the Secret Ninja Academy. You can get codestones from the Tombola or Deserted Tomb on Mystery Island or in random events; you can also buy them from other players. You can get Red Codestones by throwing a full set of regular codestones in to the volcano.
Collateral	trades/lending	Also, "Collat". When you want to borrow an item for an avatar, people will usually ask for collateral. Collateral is items or NPs worth the same as the item you're borrowing. This way, if you don't return the item, the person doesn't lose all the NPs they'd invested in the item.
Cookies	safety	These are set on your browser, and they keep track of your username and p/w. That's how you can see every page on Neopets. Many off-site scams will target your cookies because that gives them access to your account.	cookieDefender Madkukii

Galleries		Galleries are their own thing now. You cannot keep items in your Shop "just for display." Most items that people keep in their galleries are very expensive. Asking to buy those items, unless the person has said they would be willing to sell, is very rude. Galleries are full of items that someone is collecting.
Guide		A petpage that helps you with something (like mine!).
Guild		A club on Neopets. You can hang out with your friends there. (Note: Guild and Guide are not the same word. Please stop mixing them up.)
GUP	boards	Green Uni Project. They adopt painted/LE pets from the pound, morph them to green unis, and then abandon them again. There are two types who participate: GUPpies (see next entry) and the original, true GUPers. The GUPers do it because they believe everyone can and should earn their own pets and not have one handed to them from the Pound.
GUPpies	my word	Spammers and attention-seekers who claim to be a part of the GUP but who do it for the infamy. The Guppies are the ones who create boards about "Watch me GUP this pet".

Hacked		No, you were not hacked. Hacking is not breaking in to one measly account; hacking is infiltrating entire systems. For your account to be hacked, Neopets would also have to be hacked; since they haven't been, you haven't been, either. You may, however, have been cracked or scammed. If someone guessed your p/w, you were cracked. Next time, make it much more difficult; in fact, don't even make it a real word. Add numbers and random capital letters to confuse even yourself. Haggle	trades	Neomail them with your offer, and they'll consider it. They may ask you to go higher, and you can ask them to go lower. Just remember to be nice and polite and to make "real" (that is, close to the asking price) offers.
HTS	trades	Hard to Sell. In Trades. HTS items include TCGs.
HP	boards	Hit Points. To increase your max HP (the bottom number), train in Endurance at the training schools, complete random Dark Faerie quests, or use the Lab Ray.
HP	battledome	Honey Potion. Battledome Item. Prize for Illusen's Quest #35.

k		k is used in prices. "k" is short for kilo, which means 1,000; the number is multiplied by 1,000. So a price listed as 100k means 100,000 NPs. Think of "k" as ",000" on the end of the number.
Kad		Kadoatie. Can be fed in the Kadoatery game.

Literate	roleplaying	Writes very well, in understandable English (no chatspeak). Reads and responds well to other characters.
Lookie		Lookup. What you see when you visit a user's lookup or a pet's lookup. To change your lookup, go to the User Preferences My Profile page. To change your pet's lookup, go to the Pet Central Description page.
Lower than TP	trades	Find the lowest price on the Trading Post. You can offer lower than that, and they'll still probably accept.

NeoHomes		NeoHomes are pretty and you can put furniture in them. What other uses do they have? Erm, well, there's um...heh, nothing, actually. They sit there and look pretty. And that's about it... Your pets do not actually live here, strangely enough, so no worries about keeping them warm and dry.
Neopian Times		Also, "NT". The Neopian Times is a combination of stories, advice, and comics generated by Neopian users. The NT is published every Friday afternoon/evening.	Neopian Times
Newbie		Also "newb". Someone who is new to Neopets. They might not know a lot, but they're learning.
NFT	Trading Post	Also, "NFS". Not for Trade (Sale). Any of number of reasons why, but don't bug them.
NT		Neopian Times.
N00b		Not to be confused with "Newbie" (or newb), which is time-based; everyone was new to the site at some point. "N00b" is attitude-based: they disregard the Rules and scam, spam, cheat, and beg and then encourage others to do the same. N00bs are also people who flaunt their accomplishments and/or status, are habitually useless on the Boards, and who defend others who break the Rules. (Yes, elsewhere on the internet, you'll find n00b = "newbie," but not on Neopets.)
NST		Neopian Standard Time. The time in Neopia. This time is displayed in the sidebar. You cannot change the time. Everything in Neopia happens according to this clock (days, events, etc.).

OBO	trades	Or Best Offer. They'll take the best offer they get. Be patient, though, as they really are waiting for the best offer.
OOC	roleplaying	Out of Character. When you break the storyline and post as yourself instead of as your character. Generally bad.

Petpets		You can give your pet a petpet to play with. Choose the petpet from your inventory and, on the resulting pop-up, choose "Give to (your pet's name)".
Petpet Lab Ray		In order to use the Petpet Laboratory, you first have to collect all 9 pieces of the Secret Laboratory Map. Then when you take all 9 pieces of the Petpet Laboratory Map, click on the Petpet link. The Petpet Lab Ray can only zap petpets that are attached to your pets. When the zapped petpet is removed, it reverts back to what it was when it was first attached. If you get a Krawk petpet from the PPLR, no, you cannot change it into a regular Krawk pet.
Petpet Painting		Not only can your pets be painted different colors, but their petpets can be painted to match. Petpet paint brushes can be used only on petpets. To paint them, visit the Rainbow Pool, where you'll find the Petpet Puddle. You can paint your petpets here.
Petpetpet		You can give a petpet its own pet, called a petpetpet. Put the petpetpet in your Inventory and be sure that the petpet you want it on is on your Active pet. Now, start refreshing your Inventory. This might take a looong time. Once the petpetpet finally attaches, you can't unequip that petpet or the petpetpet will disappear.
PPL		Petpet Protection League. TNT picks a random petpet species and color and gives out awards based on how long the petpet has been attached to a pet. Only a certain number of users will win the prize, however.
Premium		Neopets that you pay for. You need an invitation from a current member to join. Has lots of features including no ads, the Super Shop Wizard, and more. See Leto's petpage for more information. NeoMail Al if you need an invitation.	Leto
Pure	trades	Pure means they want the whole price in NPs. Offer a junk item (less than 10 NPs) and all the NPs.
Pwn		Pwn means "own", which means to dominate or be better than or to totally rock. "Own" has been gaming slang for years. "Pwn" came around after a Warcraft user manual misspelled own; the 1337 game players started using the misspelling, instead.

Rate	boards	Anything can be rated these days, it seems. The usual reason for wanting a rating is to get a warm fuzzy feeling that someone else thinks they're valuable and talented. It's usually just a form a attention-seeking spam.
Restock		Also "RS". Buying items from the main shops or user shops and reselling them for more than you paid.	Mavrodaphne
Roleplay		Also "RP". In roleplaying, you make up a character (on Neopets, one of your pets) and give it every characteristic you can think of: hair/eye color, age/gender, opinions on world peace/ broccoli/ Jhudora, whatever. Basically, you need to know how your character will respond in any given situation. Then, you find other people to RP with. Someone makes up a story situation, and then everyone posts as their character, responding both to the original situation and to the situations that grow out of other users' posts.
Rot	trades	In "Junk offers will rot". They will neither accept nor refuse if you offer worthless items. Your bid will sit there until you withdraw it or the lot times out.
RS		Restock.
RS Help & Chat	boards	A post title typically found on the Help Board. They restock, announce restock times, post their best results, and hang around and chat.

Separate	trades	If their lot contains lots of expensive items, often they'll let you neoMail them and offer on just one item. If they like that offer enough, they'll take down the current lot and make a new lot just for you with that single item.
Screenies		Screenies, or screenshots, are images of a computer screen at a given moment and cropped to size. To display them on Neopets, you'll need an internet image hosting site. You cannot link to them directly from your computer.	ScreenieHelp
Secret Avatars		Secret Avatars are avatars not found in the default list. Tou have to do something to get them.	Avvy
Sending Items		You can send items to other users without being their NeoFriend. You do, however, have to have at least 1 NeoFriend for this to work. All you have to do is click on the item when it's in your inventory and choose "Send to NeoFriend," then fill in the username in the blank. Some people will have the option to only accept items from NeoFriends, however, and for those, you're out of luck. Also, if someone already has 50 items in the Inventory, you can't send another item to them.
SLM		Secret Laboratory Map. You need all 9 pieces; then turn them in at the Treasure Maps game.	JustToClearThingsUp

SSW		Super Shop Wizard. The normal SW returns a range of Shops and their lowest prices; the SSW returns the lowest prices of all Shops. However, the SSW has fewer searches per hour and will not look up some items, like paint brushes, nerkmids, etc.
Stats		Statistics. Age, level, gender, height, weight, hit points, strength, defense, movement, and intelligence are your pet's stats.
