Hello there guest, I'm Kirara20809, the current pet of aod2k_v2. I'm not very interested when it comes to fighting in the battledome. I'd much rather read a book or look for new cards. But my sister minako3k is absolutly OBSESSED with the battledome. So after watching her and listening to the strategizing of aod2k_v2, I've developed a useful guide for the Battledome.

    Battledome Items

Battledome items are easily the most important thing to have in a fight. They allow you to cause more damage, take more damage, heal your pet, freeze your opponent, even steal one of your opponent's weapons. I'll only go over the basics of the weapons. More info about them can be found here.

Weapons can be divided up into seven categories:
    1. Attack (only causes damage)
    2. Defense (only reduces damage)
    3. Dual (causes and reduces damage)
    4. Healing (restores your pet's hitpoints)
    5. Stealing (gives you one of your opponent's weapons)
    6. Creator (creates an item for you)
    7. Modifier (either destroyes a specific type of weapon or changes one of the opponent's weapons into something else).

Healing, Creator and Modifier can also be part of an Attack, Defense or Dual item.

Items can also be categorized into 3 weapon types: Endless Use (can be used as many times as you want is as many battles as you want), Limited Use (can only be used a certain number of times before it breaks and either can't be used for the rest of the battle or dissapears completly) and One-Time Use (once you use it, you lose it)

Attack, Defense and Dual items have their strength determined icons. There are seven icons:
    • Normal
    • Air
    • Earth
    • Fire
    • Water
    • Light
    • Darkness

The Battlepedia can show which items can cause which of the seven types of damage. Defense uses the same icons, but with a red circle and line through the icon. So a means that the battledome item will block normal attacks. The normal icons will be reffered to as Attack Icons, and the regular icons with the red circle and line will be reffered to as defense icons. (So as a recap, = attack icon, = defense icon)

Icons also play another important role: determining damage. One icon = one point of damage = one hitpoint. So if an item causes four air attack icons, that means the item has the potential to cause four points of damage which in turn can cause the opponent to lose four hitpoints. Items for defense work in the opposite way. They act as icon cancellers. An item that causes four air defense icons will cancel up to four of the opponent's air attack icons and therefore have the potential to prevent four points of damage and prevent the pet from losing four hitpoints. A pet's strength, however, can cause an item to deal more damage. In the same way, a pet's defense can cause the opponent's attack to do less damage. (see The Pet's Stats for more info)

Unfortunatly, the Battlepedia does not show how many attack or defense icons a weapon will cause. This has to be found out either by asking other users or simply by using the weapon in the battledome.

    The Pet's Stats

When battling, the pet's stats play an important role.

    • A pet's LEVEL determines how high the pet's other stats can go. A pet can only have their stats twice as high as their level. Ex. If a pet has a level of 5, that means their Hitpoints, Strength, Defense and Agility can only be 10. This rule, however, ONLY applies to training your pet at the Mystery Island Training School and the Cap'n Threelegs' Swashbuckling Academy. Other ways (such as Coltzan's Shrine, Faerie Quests or random events) are not bound by this rule. A pet's level also determies what abilities it can learn. (see Abilities for more info)
    • A pet's ENDURANCE (or Hitpoints) simply reffers to how many points of damage the pet can take before it loses the battle.
    • A pet's STRENGTH acts as an attack MULTIPLIER and will determine what percent damage the pet's attack does (this includes weapons). The strength multiplier goes as follows: 0-7 will cause the attack to do 50% normal damage; 8-12 will cause the attack to do 75% normal damage; 13-19 will cause the attack to do 100% normal damage; 20-34 will cause the attack to do 125% normal damage; 35-54 will cause the attack to do 150% normal damage; 55-84 will cause the attack to do 200% normal damage. The list continues on up to level 700, but I find it unnecessary to go any farther than 84. Note- Normal damage reffers to the number of icons a weapon will produce. (see Battledome Items for more info)
    • A pet's DEFENSE acts as a defense MULTIPLIER and will determine what percent damage the pet's defense will reduce. The defense multiplier is exactly the same as the strength multiplier. (see Battledome Items for more info)
    • A pet's AGILITY really does nothing. The only importance it has is that certain battledome items require a specific agility to use.

    Abilities

There are three types of abilities: normal abilities, faerie abilities and species abilities.

    Normal Abilities

These are the abilities that every pet can use, no matter what species they are. There are six normal abilities.
    1. Fierce Attack: This will increase the points of damage the pet causes by 40%. It will also increase the points of damage the opponent causes by 40%
    2. Jump and Attack: This will increase the points of damage the pet causes by 30%. It will also increase the points of damage the opponent causes by 30%
    3. Normal Attack: This will increase the points of damage the pet causes by 20%. It will also increase the points of damage the opponent causes by 20%
    4. Cautious Attack: This attack will have no effect on the points of damage caused by neither the pet nor the opponent.
    5. Defend: This will decrease the points of damage the pet recieves by 20%. It will also decrease the points of damage the pet causes by 20%
    6. Berserk Attack: This attack can only be used by pets whose level is 50 or higher. This will increase the points of damage the pet causes by 50%. It will also increase the points of damage the opponent causes by 50%

    Faerie Abilities

Faerie Abilities are obtained by releasing a bottled faerie. The type of faerie you release will determine what type of ability you get. The ability you get is determined by your level. All faeries will give out abilities starting at level one and will go up from there. If you release a faerie and don't have a high enough level to recieve the next ability, the faerie will simply fly away. A list of some faerie abilities (and the level they require) can be found here. Faerie Abilities are somewhat strange. Some abilities will cause attack icons, some abilities will cause defense icons, some abilities will probive items, some abilities will allow the pet to heal, and some abilities will do absolutly nothing. The best way to find out what the ability does is to either ask another player or to try it yourself.

    Species Abilities

Species abilities are abilities that are specific to a certain species (hence the name). They are obtained by the pet reaching a certain level. As far as I am aware, they will cause either aditional attack or defense icons. The best way to find out what the ability does is to either ask another player or to try it yourself.

Now that I've explained everything, I will make some suggestions based on what I've listed and what aod2k_v2 has done and shown me.

    • Before going into battle, make sure the pets that intend on battling have their str and def at least to 13. Otherwise, your pets arn't going to cause and block the same amount of damage the items they use are intended to do.

    • Use Dual items. This way, you will both cause and block damage every time you move. If you don't have dual items, then use one Attack item and one Defense item every move.

    • If you plan on using faerie abilities, go for ones that create healing items or heals the pet. Healing items not created by an ability are one time use only items AND/OR cost a lot of neopoints. Plus, you can only equip one type of healing item. The healing abilities allow you to heal your pet without having to use an equiped healing item.

    • Always have an equiped healing item. An elixer usually works the best. There will often be times when you face an opponent and will get down into the red. I have seen many situations where minako3k using her Pale Elixer has been the difference between her winning and her losing.

    • Use Single Use attack (and defense) items with caution. If you do decide to use some, go for inexpencive ones (Exploding and Evil Snowballs cause a diecent amount of damage and are usually less than 25np each). However, such items generally should be only good against fairly unequiped pets or low-level 1-player opponents. More advanced opponents will most likely have some sort of defensive item that will end up making the attack useless. And once you use it, they're gone and you have to buy another one.

    • Beware of Noobinators. Noobinators are an interesting type of battler. Generally they will target pets with higher stats than them (minako3k faced a Noobinator that was 10hp lower than her!)and win the battle with extremly powerful (and usually expencive) weapons. But because of this, Noobinators are next to impossible to detect. So a good rule to follow is as so: If it looks like an easy battle for you, expect a Noobinator!

    • Equiped healing items should only be used when the pet's hitpoints go into the red. The equiped healing item will usually heal more hp than an ability and should be used as a last resort.

    • When using faerie abilities, make it weak. Often times the ability will do the same thing weither or not the attack is weak or strong. Using a weak attack will only drain 10% of the healing bar while a strong attack will drain 30%.

    • When training pet's stats by utalizing training, it's best to go with Cap'n Threelegs' Swashbuckling Academy. Even though it does take twice as long for the training to be done and can only go up to level 40, A dubloon will generally cost less than a codestone and you can train your pets Hitpoint, Strength and Defense up to level 80. If you want your pet stronger than that, I suggest a Lab Map as a good investment. It'll be cheaper and less time consuming in the long run.

    • Unless you have a battledome item that requires your pet to have a specific agility level, don't bother training the agility. It'll have no effect at all.

    • Another good way to train your pet is to take the pet to Coltzan's Shrine. It can be used once every 13 hours and is a good way to help raise your pet's stats. Defense is raised every 10th second, Strength is raised every half hour after the hour (at XX:30), Endurance is raised every odd hour on the hour(1:00, 3:00, 5,00, ect), and the level can be raised ever even hour on the hour (2:00, 4:00, 6:00, ect).

A good set of Battledome Items (That won't cost more that 14k for all) are as follow:

    • Improved Lightning Beam- Can cause 4-6 icons of damage (2 fire, 2 light and possibly 2 normal) and block up to 3 dark icons.

    • Sandstone Boots- Cause 2-4 points of damage (2-4 normal) and bocks up to 3 water and 3 earth

    • Scarab Ring- Causes 6 icons of damage (2 water, 2 dark, 2 normal) and can block up to 3 fire and 3 normal icons.

    • Obsidian Dagger- Causes 6-8 icons of damage (2 fire, 3 earth, 1-3 normal)

    • Frozen Collar- Blocks up to 2 air, 2 earth, 2 fire and 2 water.

    • Bone Sceptre- Causes 6 icons of damage (2 dark, 2 earth, 2 air)

    • Pale Elixer- Heals 9 Hitpoints

I hope that you find my guide useful in your quest to do well in the battledome.
