Welcome to Find A Laugh, directory of screenies and humour! Thanks for visiting. My name is Weapon and I'm the curator of this collection of chuckles. Within these pages lies both the Cure For All Boredom and the deadly Draft Of Procrastination. Be warned.
May is the Month of New Screenies! If you've ever considered making your own screenie page but never quite gotten around to it, how about now? I'll be posting advice and encouragement in the Updates all month. Let yourself be inspired. [C:]
Find A Laugh lists screenie pages (in The Screenies) and humorous or entertaining pages (in The Humour). If you're not sure whether your page qualifies as one of these then feel free to send it in anyway and I'll let you know.
Comments and suggestions are also very welcome!
I spent a few hours advertising Question on the Help Chat yesterday, around noon NST, and the response was amaaazing. People seem to like it a lot! [8D] It was great fun talking with everyone while they worked on the puzzles. Asbrion's challenge was giving most people trouble, he's not popular, poor guy.
And this morning I woke up to ten neomails about the Quest, six of which were from people who had completed it! They have of course been added to Question's Hall of Fame.
11th May | The Month of New Screenies #02
If you're taking part in the 'Month of New Screenies' then you might have one or two screenies saved by now. (It's not too late to start if you haven't!) On the 5th I suggested that you didn't have to think of something funny to write on (or under) the screenie straight away, that you could think about it and come back later. Now might be a good time to look back at the screenies you've saved and have a think.
It's up to you what you want to make of them, but here are some thoughts:
There's nothing wrong with browsing other people's screenie pages while you're waiting on ideas - just be careful not to completely copy someone else's approach. Reading other screenie pages will help you figure out what you like and don't like, helping you decide what to do with your own.
The Quest is now live! Question is a puzzle game, at its simplest. Ten challenges, ten puzzle-makers, one mind - yours. As the tagline says: It is a quest of the mind. Good luck. [C;]
Big thank yous to 0llyness, Guddi6, Placebo_53, Tloef and my mum who all had a hand in beta testing to help me iron out the creases.
5th May | The Month of New Screenies #01
Have you ever considered making your own screenie page? Why don't you give it a go? Let's make May the Month of New Screenies! Everyone can make screenies together!! [8D] /corny enthusiasm
It's early yet, so you have time to consider. Try keeping the idea of screenies in the corner of your mind while you go about your usual Neopian activities. If you spot something that might be funny or interesting then take a screenshot and save it. You don't have to think of something masterfully witty to go with it straight away; you can think about it and come back later. [C:]
If you need a tutorial on taking and saving screenshots then check out the Guides section. The first three listed (ScreenieHelp, Screenie Guide and Jellyneo's Screenshot Guide) are the most straightforward, for the basics.
The Triv' Quiz is two years old today! [C=] In celebration it now has its own unique layout, plus I've added ten new questions, taking the total up to 160. As I've mentioned previously, I will be adding ten more questions every month until this time next year.
Checked all the screenie listings, removing twenty poofed pages. Odd, I'm sure it's always taken me more than one sitting to do that on previous occasions. [O.o] Less listings or higher tedium tolerance?
I've started work on an overdue link sweep. Thus far I've checked the Humour, the Guides and the Sitely. Just 300 screenie links to go~ [;D]
I'm currently coercing some poor unsuspecting people into beta-testing the Quest. [C;]
Yes, I am teasing you with a button that doesn't lead anywhere. [C;] The Quest is nearing completion, but only nearing. Don't expect it before the Quiz's birthday on the 24th.
Turnip thought my button selection could still do with some improvement (and I have to agree!) so I've been trying to address that this morning. I've managed to come up with a good design and have made two buttons with it, one animated and the other still. If you go down to Sitely the new buttons are the blue ones with the white horizontals. [C=]
+ Also now replaced the old white buttons with a similar design.
Turnip also felt the text on FAL's title banner was a bit flat. I came up with the idea of adding electric/glowing lines inside them, as you can now see. What do you think? I can't decide whether I like it or not. [xD]
Alsooo I've renamed the 'Games' section Subsites and added a line explaining that the pages there are part of FAL.
I managed to catch a 'Pro/Con' review from Frequent Flyer. [=D] I'm very pleased with Turnip's thoughts, there's definitely a few things I'm going to be tweaking thanks to her suggestions.
Hmm, looks like my last link sweep was in September '12. Didn't realise it had been so long already, I guess we're due another one. [=D]
It looks like the Thieves Guild is making economical use of the continued absence of an official Obelisk War prize shop!
Quest progress continues. [C;]
I'm still hoping to get FAL reviewed, but it's difficult catching a good review site with open requests. There's a couple I'm keeping an eye on.
I've finished the tedious and time-consuming part of the Quest*! (*As mentioned on the 28th.) However, there's still a lot more work to be done before the game as a whole is finished. [C=]
I'm thinking that the Quiz should have its own layout, rather than a copy&paste of this one. It seems only fair, since the Quest is getting a unique layout, haha. I'll see if I can come up with something in time for the Quiz's birthday on the 24th.
I was advertising The Expanded Calendar on the Help Chat yesterday and while bumping the topic I was alternating between my TEC signature and my FAL signature. And FAL gained another large number of hits on my Pagestats. So that explains what happened last week; it was because I was advertising A Gift For Life all day. Mystery solved! [8D]
Watch out for April Fools pranks today. [C;] Don't worry, I'm not doing any. I can never think of any good ideas for it.
Spending a couple of hours advertising FAL on the Help Chat at the moment (evening my time, noon Neo time). I've been working on the Quest a lot today, making a layout and figuring out how the content is all going to fit inside it. The game relies on anchors and hidden overflow, and as a consequence it seems to need a huge tangle of floating, nesting and margins in order to make it hang together nicely. So it looks tidy on the outside but untidy on the inside. [D;]
Just wanted to mention that I've begun work on the new game (let's give it a working title of 'Quest', shall we?). But it is going to take a long time. It's a big project, more on the scale of the Quiz than the I Spy and Spot the Similarity stuff that I retired.
I've started with what will be one of the hardest parts of the Quest and unfortunately the coding of it is extremely tedious and time-consuming. I think it'll be worth it though. [C:]
The Screenies are ordered by username.
Within lies a motley collection of all the listings that are not screenie pages, which includes parodies, comics, witty literature, facts, jokes and games. The Humour is ordered by site title.
Still looking for more laughs? Try the comics section in the Neopian Times!
The subsites are Find A Laugh's own games, hosted on separate pages.
The Triv' Quiz is a Neopian trivia quiz crossed with a scavenger hunt; some answers you may know but others will entail some searching to find. The first question, for example, is Where would you find Neopia's one and only Motery? Do you think you know the answer?
Question is a quest of puzzles. Ten challenges set by ten puzzle-makers, and one mind - yours. The Quest will take you to every corner of Neopia and will test every side of your mind.
