This story takes place in a very calm setting, A far off village not well known to most. The land is mostly dense forest. A large river stretches across the landscape, near the village. A log carefully placed across the slopes to serve a bridge.

the constant whimpering of canines echoed through the air. Two of them, Small puppies waddling about. A boy and a girl. How they got there, one can never know. But they were lost, looking for the warmth of their mother most likely. It was hard to tell if they were lupe or Gelert. but I suppose it doesn't matter. The sound of the rushing water seem to draw them near it, Sense they could not yet see, and barely hear they grew more and more frightened.

Crawling on top of one another they managed to get on the log bridge and it happened in a instant, the little male tumbled over the side into the water. The rushing current forcing him under the water and away. His tiny ear could faintly hear voices scream his and his little sisters names. then everything was black, and he thought nothing no more.

Eventually the body got it's way on the shore line of the the river. Laying lifeless in the sand as the current continued to sprinkled water on it. Someone, I'm not sure who, found the body and took it. they might have thought it was a waste of life. to just let the creature remain dead. Or maybe they enjoyed toying with lives.
But by combining the canine with another creature, and isolated him. The pup was given life again, just not as he once was before....

He awoke slowly at the sound of birds chirping in the air. his ear twitching at the high pitch noise. Eyes snapping open he picked his head up quickly and looked around... It was a large meadow...But how did he know it was meadow?... Where was he, What was he. The creature was no longer a lost puppy waddling about, but full grown... and no longer a canine either. Looking down at his hooves he stood to his feet. A rush of dizziness hit him causing him to fall to the ground again... All he could remember was water, the feel of moving water all around him. and someone in the distance calling out
."...Jirince!!....".
Jirince,...That must be him. Jirince Welkin Brannigan... "How did I know that..?" he asked out loud looking up into the sky...And why was he here? He laid there for awhile longer staring down as his fur covered hooves. When he could finally get them into focus he tried standing once more. This time managing to keep up. Turning to a dirt path his sighed, "Well, I guess, I might as well just start living.." He said to himself and begain to walk away.

One of the first that Jiro really noticed about himself was the odd bat like wings coming out of his back.
At first he tried not to dwell much on it. He had more important things to think of, like finding out were he came from.
Then one day he noticed them. Pteris, flying through the sky. As soon as saw them, the way they defied gravity. Thier wings, much like his own. Finding out about himself ment nothing to him. Who cared who he once was? All that mattered was what he could be. And he wanted to be like those birds, flying carelessly in the clouds.

As you can tell, Jirince, was a big dreamer. However, he was also stubborn. Those two things combine can make anything happen my friends. For months he practiced, jumping off of small cliffs at first flapping his wings. Watching other flying creatures as they took off, flew about, then landed. Slowly but gradually he moved on to bigger cliffs, jumping in air and hovering. till one day, after almost a whole year, he did it. He flew.....
It was exactly as he imagined it. And he knew all those hours were not wasted. He was flying, he was living his dream!

Sadly the little buck couldn't pick a worse time or place to have his dream realized. You see he was a ixi. A very plain ixi, green brown just a little orange. He looked like a natural citizen of Merridell. And Merridell was in war...
Out of no where Darigan soldiers swooped in. Thus begin the small struggle in the sky. Jirince managed to evade them for awhile, but he was a novice flyer unlike them.
Finally a Darigan Mynci grabbed at him and caught his wing. It ended like this, Jiro's wing was torn off completely. Not even a bloody stub left. And he plummeted down.

After so much work, he had finally tasted the power of flight. He had felt at peace and over joyed and within minutes.... Lost it.

After the loss of his wing Jiro wandered around aimlessly. He was in shock, And felt yet again he had nothing to live for. It was on his travels that he found a calm and cozy enviroment. Many of ixi roamed about, most of them much taller then he. Still he had no where else to go so he decided to trot through and look about as he was on his way.
So many of the ixi were pleasant and inviting. It was like the second he stepped foot there he made friends. It felt great, it was like he was flying again. He made many friends; Tei, Cusis, Kay, the list went on. It wasn't long that he was given the honor of being the guard to watch over the lands. It was his purpose now, to get stronger like his friend Cusis. And by doing this he'd be helping his new friends and the herd. Jirince even ventured out making friends outside his herd.
Time traveled fast, and before he knew it he was in love with the beautiful leader of the herd Prizzy. Everything was perfect. and then it too was taken away. It happened so instantly, first Kay left. Then Tei vanished and then Prizzy herself was nowhere to be seen.

Jiro went into a state of depression. Moping and barely getting up or eating. What was the point? Every time something good happened it vanished. He started to get physically ill along with his emotional problems.
Then he just forgot. Everything about the Ixi grove, such a important part of his life lost. It was as if his mind point out it's distress and deleted it. He remembered faintly leading a herd once and still has great leadership qualities but if he was to meet his old friends again. He'd be meeting strangers.

Petpets went out everyday to face their destiny. To see who they were now going to save, day in and day out. The group of these petpets are still unknown. But it is also heard that they fight against the Turmaculas and petpet lab ray, as well as protecting the citizens of Neopia.
It was on a certain day that one specific petpet found who he believed he'd followed to end of the earth to protect. No it wasn't Denzel, A snowbunny had found Jiro first. He was lost and scared and needed help. The snowbunny , Momiji, rushed to his side. He frightened the Ixi at first, That was bad. For someone to actually be afraid of a tiny snowbunny, well lets just they really did need a guardian. After following his new proclaimed 'master' for awhile. the Ixi got used to him and accepted him gladly. Now just happy to have someone around him.

When night fell, and Jiro went to sleep, Momiji ran back to headquarters. Reporting his find and intentions for the ixi. The head council granted him his wish. So begin their time together.
But sadly Momiji had failed poor Jiro. The day Jiro flew for the first time, Momiji watched proudly on the tall cliff Jiro had lept off. Then suddenly watched in horror as he was attacked and plummeted down to the ground. Momiji couldn't fly, he could not have saved Jiro, no matter how hard he would have tried. But that didn't stop him from blaiming himself. He was a failure, he let his friend down.
Just like when Jiro fell ill and depressed when his friends left, Momiji's life fell downward. He couldn't look at Jirince without feeling regret and hurt. Momiji disappeared, and his whereabouts to this day are unknown.

But because of Jiro's emotional despair of having his wing, and a ability of flight taken from him, he still need someone to watch over him. So the council assigned Denzel to protect the poor Ixi. Because Denzel could fly he had more freedom of where to go and could travel faster. Thus making him a better protector. He also had protected someone before. Though they had disowned him for a more expensive petpet, shortly after the being was frozen (some guardian that petpet was.). Denzel knew exactly what he was doing. and gladly excepted. He played a common routine to get Jiro's attention, he faked danger. And it worked perfectly. Jiro took him in, still a wreck from losing his wing and his best friend. The company of the faellie was just what he needed. And Denzel had what he believed was the best days in his life. Jiro had fell in love with a pretty doe..who happened to have a very pretty pink faellie as well...
Of course nothing good could last forever though. When they all left. All his friends, what he believed was his meaning of life. Jiro fell ill, depressed, and unwanted. But Denzel stayed by him. Constantly hugging him and cooing, reminding him he wasn't alone. Jiro's Friends had left him, but a little Faellie kept the Ixi from losing his sanity.
And to this day he watches over him.

So think about your petpets. Before you go and replace them with something better and more flashy looking. Or paint them some ghastly color. Think of what their going though. Most likely they're risking their all for your neopet. And all you got to thank them is to feed them to a overly grown Turmac, or zap them into oblivion with a lab way.
Just for once stop and think about what you're doing.

A: His front are covered with a very thin and soft coat of brown fur, while his back are just normal.
