~Flames of Truth~

Snow whips all around your vulnerable shape, stinging your face and causing you to wrap your thin coat around you. Trudging through the almost knee deep snow was rather uncomfortable, and you could no longer feel your feet as you searched for some kind of shelter in this thin forest of tall, spindly pines. Then suddenly, you spot a dark shape through the snow. Feeling some hope rising up inside of you, you race forward, hoping with all your heart that it was what you thought it was. It was a cave, barely visible through the blowing snow, but it was indeed a cave and could provide a temporary shelter until the blizzard calmed down.

Letting out a loud sigh of relief, you quickly step inside and stop a second to view your surroundings. It seemed like any other cave at first glance, but of course looks can be deceiving. But it was either brave the cave or the storm; you choose the cave. Brushing some of the snow from your hair and coat, you take a deep breath and head down the tunnel. Above your head small stalactites were forming and the sound of dripping water could be heard all around you. Soon a slight flickering glow could be seen bouncing across the walls, making strange shapes in the shadows of the rocks. Realizing that you indeed were not alone, you ponder over heading back, but decided that wouldn't be the best idea. It was best just to continue.

As you head further down the tunnel, the glow grew brighter until finally you came across the decent sized room with beddings and a fireplace on the far wall. But what really catches your attention was the large, pale figure resting beside the fire.

Her white scales shone and glistening in the fire's light and the lavender flames covering her limbs seemed to dance with it. Pearly spikes ran down the slope of her spine, and two gold rings glistened on her tail and left arm. Her large flame covered wings were folded tightly against her back, while her whip like tail twitches gently behind her like a cat. There was no doubt that this dragon like creature could do quite a bit of damage if she wanted to. Hearing you approach, she twitches her large, webbed ears and turns around to face you, her fluffy bangs falling into her lavender eyes as she does so. Glaring slightly in your direction, she pushes aside her hair, revealing a small gem on her forehead and sighs gently with exhaustion.

What do you want? She asks gently, one of her ears swiveling slightly to the side as the sounds of giggling and playing could be heard down one of the corridors. Then noticing your state, the draik sighs softly and beckons you to come closer to the fire. Come, sit by the fire, you must be freezing. She smiles reassuringly and pats a spot near the fire.

You're rather reluctant to sit near this large creature, but conscious of the fact that it was either try and trust the dragon or freeze, you decide to move towards the fire. Sitting a far enough distance away from her, you rub your hands together, warming them and smile gratefully over at her.

Well while you are here, I might as well tell you a little about myself while you wait for the storm to die down. Smiling reassuringly again, as if able to feel your fear. She shifts her position slightly so that she is facing you. Don't worry, I will not harm you."

About Me

My full name is Flames of Truth, but you may of course call me Truth, never Flame please. A grim smile follows that remark. I am a mage, a fire/lightening mage to be exact, and I am somewhat telepathic. I live here in Aeglos Falls with my love Draiken, my neighbor Suno, and my three beautiful children, Lin, Nai, and Dare. I also am the caretaker of Gallatea_Wind and Drakkinavol, half sister to Theaserpent, and host to Flame, my other 'half'. She chuckles gently at that thought and fingers her necklace.

Well I bet you're wondering what I mean by Flame being my other half? She chuckles. Well I have what is called Dissociative Identity Disorder, or Multiple Personality Disorder. Pretty much when I was very young, I suffered some horrible trauma when I was possessed by a shadow demon named Chaya, and forced to kill while completely conscious the whole time and helpless to do anything to stop her. Her voice lowers slightly as she explains this and her eyes drop to the floor. Well anyways, my mind developed another personality, another 'person' to take over at certain times and help me through the rough times. Flame has a rather cruel personality, and she tends to act without thinking. For the longest time, I thought of her as a 'curse' and often called her my evil side for she would come out and take over whenever I was feeling very upset or angry. But I have gotten to know her better recently, for we can talk to each other with telepathy, and I know that if it wasn't for her, acting as my 'stronger' half, I probably wouldn't be here today.

Of course many of my friends or anyone who has gotten to know me, still think of Flame as being my 'evil half' and they tend to avoid me whenever my flames turn blue, signalling Flame's appearance. Of course, now I know that Flame is just trying to help me out, and she really does have a sensitive side. She accepts Draiken, and loves playing with children, so she is absolutely thrilled about my son and two daughters and always helps out when she can. That would be where my 'multitasking' comes in. Since Flame shares my telepathic powers, she is able to do one thing, while I work on something else. Of course we can't do everything this way seeing that I only have one body, but it has helped us out a couple times when we need to focus on different things. She laughs softly then suddenly jerks her head around as two little girls race through the room and disappear down another corridor, causing Truth to shake her head with amusement.

That would be Lindoulea and Nailumi. Don't mind them, they are just playing around. I'm sure little Darenite is wandering around here somewhere as well. She smiles, then tilts her head slightly in thought, trying to remember where she left off before the interruption. Well anyways, as I mentioned earlier, I am of a fire element, so I have trouble in cold weather, and can even die if it is cold enough or if I'm out long enough. My body just can't stand cold temperatures, which would of course be why I'm resting by the fire rather than outside in the blizzard. She chuckles gently, then lifts herself carefully up, grabs a log from the pile beside the fireplace and throws it in, causing more sparks to fly up. Smiling with satisfaction, she wanders back over and curls up once again on the floor. Flame's element however is the complete opposite. Her element is ice, hard as that is to believe, since technically speaking she is a part of me. But since she is using my body, she can't really use her element, but we can sometimes summon it when needed. She shrugs.

Well let's move on, shall we? I hope I'm not boring you, feel free to interrupt me at any time."

Magic/Abilities

Like I mentioned before, I am a mage, meaning that I can invoke spells with the help of my staff and elements. She reaches up and touches her necklace gently, and almost imediatly it expands into a staff in her paw. This necklace was give to me by Draiken, but I have enchanted it so that it is connected with my staff as well. She points near the top of the staff where the necklace was now wrapped around it.

Well anyways, the element I work best with would be lightening, and it tends to be the easiest spell to summon since it is of course part of my element. But I have also learned how to summon other spells as well, such as levetating other things, making myself invisible, etc, using my elements as power. She shrugs gently and the staff disappears into the necklace once again, leaving it dangling on her flame covered paw. Putting it lovingly back around her neck, she heaves a small sigh. My Staff seems to be changing slightly over time, it tends to grow, like a tree. I suspect that it is alive in it's own sense, or maybe it grows as I grow with my magic. She shakes her head gently in thought, then shrugs. But whatever the case, the wood part of the staff seems to be growing up and around the winding gold and the blue orb at the top of the staff.

But that isn't all of my abilities of course. I am also telepathic, well somewhat anyways. She grins at the look on your face before continuing. I have the ability to 'feel' other people's minds. As in I can usually automatically tell who it is, and how close they are. And I can tell whether or not they are lying and what mood they are in. Very useful at times, especially with three children. She chuckles and winks slightly. So no, I can't actually read minds. I can read thoughts sent towards me, and I can send thoughts if the other mind is listening, but that is about it."

Another ability that I possess, that sorta came with Flame, would be my eyes and gem. They change with my more extreme moods. Such as, when I'm afraid, they turn a swirling blue color, angry can range from blue to black sparks flashing across a dark purple color, and when I'm happy the lavender color swirls with a lighter almost pink color. My pupils also tend to disappear whenever I'm practicing magic that takes up a lot of power. She paws at her bracelet briefly before shrugging gently.

Markings: White scales with lavender flames on all of her feet, wings, and tail. Ear webbing and belly scales are light lavender, top fingers in ears are longer and curl at the ends, small purple gem on her forehead, light purple tipped bangs, usually walks on all fours, wears a gold ring on her tail before the last spike, and one on her left leg, and is sometimes seen wearing the necklace Draiken gave to her.

There was once a time when I was a normal child with a decent and blessedly eventless life. I had my loving mother and father, and three siblings. Life was normal. But that all changed after one little prophecy, changing everything I once knew and plunging my life into a pit which I have never fully recovered from...

Path4ever:

Path4ever, or Path for short is 'Night Dragon'. Her job is to know your worst fears and make them come to life by delivering nightmares to sleepers. She used to be very much like me, a kind, warrior faerie. But she agreed to give up her soul and took up this job to save a dear one. Now she is a creature of fears.

Path81:

Diella, or Di for short...I don't like her too much. She is a darigan krawk who loves nothing better than to manipulate and flirt with others. She is a rogue and knows her job well. She is a somewhat dark character and loves meeting new people, if only to bug them. She is mischievious and clever, so I prefer to steer away from her.

Ruthania:

Ruthania, or Ruth for short reminds me of my own little Faerie Nimfea. She is a Sidhe(SHEE) scorchio, a faerie folk, who loves nothing more than playing with people, dancing, and singing. She is rather small, the same size of my bonded faerie in fact, and she will come over every once in a while just to play with Nimfea and the children. She loves showing off her magic and is a very playful type, not shy at all around strangers.

Theaserpent:

Theaserpent, or Thea for short is my half brother, on my father's side. He is a half oriental and seems to have a fascination with the stars and ancient languages. He adores just exploring the land, and helping others at random times. Though he seems to be doing that less lately, must be because of Milianthea, his love. Thea also seems to lurk around me a lot, as if trying to 'protect' me. I can handle myself just fine thankyou, I don't need him looking after me, even if I am his little sister. He can be very paranoid at first, but is the loyal type once you get to know him, and quite friendly and gentleman like.

Gallatea_Wind:

Gallatea, or Gal for short is a very bouncy and playful water faerie draik. I took her in years ago when I found her with her beaten and weak mother. But she has grown up a lot since then and is now a healer in training. She loves helping people and meeting new friends. She has a very friendly personality, being one who doesn't believe in violence at all, and is very playful, especially in the water.

Drakkinavol:

Drakkinavol, or Kina for short is a strange little character whom I know very little about. I rescued her a little while as well, shortly after we moved to Aeglos Falls, but I had my own things to worry about, so I gave her to Gallatea to look after. Kina has grown into a lovely dragon vixen since then and has started devoloping some very interesting powers.

Bliitz:

Bliitz is a strange character, yet there is something about him that I like. He grew up in the desert, being trained as a warrior, but broke away from that years later, and now fights agaist the war. I don't know how successful he will be, but he certainly is determined, so I hope he does. Bliitz is a slightly mutated desert draik, and is blind in one eye, but he is one of the most loyal and strong characters I have ever met. If anyone can stop the destruction of his home land, he can.

Crotalus:

*Truth hisses violently at the mention of his name* Crotalus, or Cro for short...I really don't like him at all! He is a faerie rattlesnake oriental with quite a nasty personality. He loves manipulating others and doesn't really care for anyone's welfare except for his own. This tiny creature even stole my eggs back before they hatched, ate one of them, and threatened the others before they were rescued by my love. He is one to steer clear of if you can, he has a way of getting what he wants, despite his small size.

My Love

Draiken is a really sweet guy, if rather clumbsy and goofy at times. We first met when Draiken first left his cave. She pauses briefly and chuckles gently with the thought. That was such a long time ago, and as we got to know each other better, our feelings started to grow. But we didn't realize what it was at the time, until much later. She waves one of her paws gently and shrugs. But I will get to that in a little bit. Draiken is of a water element, quite opposite to mine, unless of course you include Flame. So he enjoys the cold, while I avoid it. Which makes things awkward at times, but that doesn't matter. Draiken also has these large wings, but he can't fly! He never really learned, he was trapped in his cave most of his life, where of course there was no room to fly. And by the time he got out, his wing muscles weren't developed enough to fly. So instead his wings are used for propelling him through the water. She chuckles gently and shrugs once again. Then with a deep sigh, she wanders over and gently places another log onto the fire with a small shiver.

But he really is a very good guy. He is rather protective of me and our children, at first he wasn't, but that's a different story. He does provide us with the food we need, since I can't hunt in this bitter cold weather and need to stay in the cave to take care of the younglings anyways. He is constantly getting into trouble however, being the clumsy, grounded flyer that he is, but I don't mind. We have been through so much together and now we hardly ever leave each other's sides for fear of loosing each other again. She pauses and looks at your confused face. Ah, I bet you're wondering what I'm talking about. Well then, let me tell you a little story." She smiles and shifts slightly into a more comfortable position, her large wings draping wearily over her delicate shape.

My Children

Ah yes, my beautiful children, hatched on February 26th, 2005. We did have four healthy eggs, but a certain character stole them, and we managed to get three back. Unfortunetly the fourth was eaten, much to my grief. Want to hear the entire story? Just follow the link below. ^^ (remove spaces)

Lindoulea:

She was the second hatchling to hatch, and we thought that she was a runt until of course Nailumi was born. Lin is the middle child, hatched second out of the three, and the second largest. She is already a very curious little draikling, and seems to already know a lot despite her very young age. She seems to like imitating people's actions and words, and she seems to have a thing for music. She is already attached to a small harp I made for her.

Nailumi:

This little girl was the last to hatch, in fact I thought that she would never hatch, but was proven wrong one morning by Draiken's overjoyed cries. She is very small though, the smallest of the bunch and seems to sleep alot. But I can tell that she will grow up strong, she seems to have a lot of spirit and likes hanging out with her sister Lin. She also seems rather attached to her faerie slorg and is already showing abilities similer to that of her father.

Darenite:

Dare...Dare worries me some times. He is the largest of the bunch and is already wandering off on his own and seems to be visiting our neighbor, Sunokuin quite a lot. He is rather antisocial and has a very distant personality and I have had to separate him from fights with his sisters. He seems to have gained a strange new gift from Suno recently, they are just bands with jewels on his front arm, but I have a strong feeling that they are more than that. Flame seems to like his individualism however.

Pets/Companions

Orlith:

Orlith has been my dear and loyal friend for many many years. She came to me during one of my more depressing years and helped to comfort me. I almost lost her to someone else but she came right back to me and I haven't parted with her since. She has become bonded with me and over the years and her once golden and orange coat has slowly morphed into a white and light purple color. Now she lives with me in our cave with Draiken and his slorg, and my three dear children with their various petpets. I do have other companions as well, but Orlith has always been and will always be my dearest friend.

Nimfea:

Nimfea, meaning 'White Sprite', is a rather free spirited fire faerie who was give to me by Queen_Tasmira and DancingNymph. She was created by having one of my scales dropped into the faerie pond in the Sylvan forest. Nimfea has been very loyal to me, and loves watching over and playing with the hatchlings. She can also be rather protective at times and like me hates the cold!

Anhuo:

Anhuo, meaning 'Dark Fire', is bonded with my other half, Flame, but sports my likeness. Anhuo was given to us by Queen_Azamoth, Tasmira's sister, and loves nothing more than bugging Nimfea. I don't like Anhuo that much, but Flame insists on keeping her and is indeed quite attached to the little goblin. Anhuo enjoys spying on Dare and sports many of Flame's and my own darker qualities.

Draik Clan Territories Map

Ah yes, home sweet home. She chuckles briefly and gestures around the cave.We are in Aeglos Falls, a small area in the Draik Clan filled with mountains, forest, and of course water falls. In fact we even have several in the back of this cave which serves as our water source.

Well first of all I bet you are wondering what in the world the Draik Clan is. It is a small piece of land somewhere on the other side of Neopia where us draiks have gathered together and called home. It is a place for us to settle down in peace away from the other neopians and where we can hang out and become friends with out own kind. Draik "owners" gather there as well and talk about all sorts of things, including art and adoptables. She shakes her head slightly, still confused about that subject.

Well anyways, Draiken, Suno, and myself settled down in this beautiful land and named it Aeglos Falls after the numerous water falls that tumble down the cliffs around us and inside the vast caverns and into the river below. Surrounding the waterfall filled mountains is a vast, coniferous forest, filled with spindly pines, and a tundra up to the North where Suno has settled.

Being so close to the Tundra, winter around here lasts for most of the year, and there is almost always snow on the ground around us. Subconsiously she shivers slightly and gazes gratefully over at the fire.I don't mind it too much as long as there is always a roaring fire in the cave. And it is beautiful after it snows, and late spring and summer make up for the cold and long winters. During the summer the land around us seems to come to life. The land around us turns a lush green color, speckled with various wildflowers, and put together with the river and waterfalls, it is quite a site to see! She chuckles over that thought and with a small sigh she pulls her gaze away from the fire.But that is still a ways off I'm afraid.

Farewell

Noting that the storm had finally died down, Truth lets out a small sigh and smiles sleepily over at you.Well you best be off then, I certainly have nothing more that I can tell you and I'm about to fall asleep anyways. She chuckles gently and nods her head towards the exit before laying it gently on her forepaws.I wish you luck with the rest of your journey and I hope you get home safely. Thank you for staying and listening to my story.

With that, you pick yourself slowly to your feet, perhaps amazed by this old draik's stories, or maybe just eager to get home. Whatever the case, you wrap your coat around you once again and slip out of the draik's cave and head towards your own home, leaving the strange fire draik and her family behind in Aeglos Falls.
