It's back to school after those lovely winter holidays. Here's some great advice for those of us preparing for our futures. But who said it?

The first step to getting the things you want out of life is this: Decide what you want.

The person who said this has had a number of different careers through the years, along with developing a cult following as an actor. Besides acting, what is one other job this person has had?

Bast-lett's Quotations is a bi-weekly game. With each new round, I'll present a different quotation, and your job is to guess who said it. The quote could be historical, literary, from famous speeches, or from movies or tv shows. Quotes may be fairly well known or strangely obscure.


Each round will include a Bonus question, usually asking something about the circumstances of the quote- where it came from, when, or why it was said.

An example round:

Tell me the name of the well-known character who said this:

Curse them! WE hates them! it's ours it is, and we wants it! We wants it, we needs it. Must have the precious. They stole it from us. Sneaky little hobbitses. Wicked, tricksy, false!

Bonus: What is the title of the work that this is from?


The correct answer is "Gollum" or "Smeagol". The correct bonus answer is "The Two Towers" or "Lord of the Rings".


Each new round will be posted on Monday morning. Guild members have a week to come up with the answer and neomail it to Thalia.
First Place receives 1000 SC
Second Place receives 750 SC
Third Place receives 500 SC
Fourth Place receives 250 SC

As well, each correct answer wins a prize and each correct bonus answer wins a bonus prize, ranging in value from 500 NP-5000 NP, depending on difficulty of the question and order of neomails received. Consolation prizes will be given to those who neomail incorrect answers, too, so you really can't go wrong. Prizes will be handed out to the first four people to get their neomails in.

The bonus asked the name of the band who wrote and performed the song "Autumn Almanac". This band was The Kinks (one of Thalia's favourites!)
