My wings are glow in the dark...

You watch a small rock from not too far, surrounded by a pool of water and trees. You're not quite sure where, but you're in a forest that is unknown to you. You see a small Xweetok walk out onto the rock, his right eye covered with a scar, and another scar on his left cheek. His front paws both have remains of what appears to be shackles, but they aren't connected any longer. He hesitates to come near you, but gives you a warming smile.

Story

My name? My name was... number 000. That's what they called me, I was just another lacky for them to play with. I wasn't the first test subject they had tested upon, but since I was such a great success, they used zero's instead of just numbers. I didn't used to look like this either, I used to be a youthful xweetok, but I lived in alleyways alone after my parent's died. When I was discovered, I was put in the pound, and after some time adopted by people who ran tests on feral Xweetoks. They wanted us to be inhumanly strong, or genius'. I was neither, I was rather calm, but I was fast and adapted quickly. I was the first subject to take all the serum's without dying. Others came after me, and we were all crammed in cages for a majority of our days. We sat, with nothing better to do but sleep.
Many of the other Xweetok's gave each other nicknames, they called me the Beginner because I was the first to survive, not that I ever responded to that name. "Psst, Beginner, you awake?" The xweetok in the cage next to me asked, though I didn't respond. "Yo, Beginner. Beginner? Triple Zero?" He finally said, and I yawned. "What?" I asked. "They took Bitey and Two-bit out, I can see 'em from here, they're pitting each other in a fight." He told me, and I shuddered. I'd hate to have to fight anyone, I wouldn't be able to match their abilities.
And hey, it doesn't look like they're just fighting for fun. There's blood everywhere." He said, and my eyes widened. It wasn't just fighting, it was fighting to the death. I stood up in my two foot cage and looked out between the bars. I could barely see the fighting, but I did hear the snarling and heard sounds that terrified me. "It's the survival of the fittest." I said softly. "You think we'll have to fight?" I asked. "Probably, ya know, I heard the others talking about it earlier, they think the training is getting harder." He said. I blinked, and then stared back towards the fighting. I didn't want to fight to live, now all I wanted was to be free.

The days passed, and one by one, more xweetok's were fighting. There were many you never saw again, they were most likely dead. They're blood stained the room we all stayed in, and the smell made us crazy, it was all you could smell nowadays. "I'm getting restless Z." The xweetok next to me said. "I can't stand it no more, I'm going to fight soon I know it. At least with you, they might now make you fight." He said. "Why would you think that?" I asked. "You're the beginner, the first ones are always free, they won't fight ya, they'll just do more tests on ya." He said, but that didn't sound any better. "You're triple Zero, you got... what's da word? Aven Zero's." He said. "You mean Even." I corrected him. "Ya! Dats a good name for you, Even Zero." He said, and I stretched out my paws. "It just sounds like a lab name to me.
The next day the people who did tests on us came around and gave each of us chains that connected us to our cages. "Someone got out." The xweetok next to me said. "They knew they were next to fight, so they forced themselves out. They knew they was gonna die, and now we're trapped in here for good." He said, and sighed. I struggled and tried to move my paws around, but I could only go far enough to reach the small food dish, and my water. Things just kept getting worse for us all, and everyone was getting restless.
After two days, it was my cage-companion's turn to fight. He waved good bye to me as they took him off, and I could see fear in his eyes. I only hoped he would be alright, but I could here them fighting. The sound of fur being sliced open, and the sounds that they made. I closed my eyes and dropped my ears down, and I tried desperately to think of a happy place I could go, but all I could hear was death, all I could smell was death, death was what our food tasted like, and it always seemed right around the corner.
I watched as they came back, in their hands they carried my cage companion's body, but he was hard to see. They put him back in the cage, but I didn't hear him moving around. "Are you alright?" I asked, and I could feel my stomach tighten. As much as I didn't really like being bothered, it was nice talking to him. "I'm good... there's lots of blood coming outta me... I won't survive the night..." He said, and I heard him cough. "You'll be fine! I know you will, you won, they wouldn't let you die." I said, though I could already feel tears make their way to my eyes. "Yer tough though, you'll make it outta here... 'cause you're... A... A... Avenzaro..." He said, his words pressed together into one word, and I could hear as his chains rattled, and it sound like he fell down. "Are you okay?" I asked, and one tear streamed down my cheek. "I know you're alright... you're still there, right?" I asked, and more tears started falling down my cheeks. "Answer me!" I shouted, but he never answered, I couldn't hear any sounds coming from his cage any longer. I closed my eyes and curled into a ball, I just wanted it to all go away.

My cage opened, but as they picked me up, they didn't go the usually way they did to take me to the training area. They went towards where I watched the Xweetok's fight. A voice in my head started screaming, and I started scratching at the hands that held me, but they restrained me and then tossed me into the place I knew it was where they fought. It was covered in blood, and it screamed out in pain. I watched as another xweetok was placed in with me, and they looked like they wanted to rip my throat out. "P... please, we don't need to fight." I said, my voice fading. "You wish!" He snarled, and charged at me. I ran to the side, it was all I could do. I could only run away.
He turned and charged at me again, but I kept dodging his ruthless swipes. We ran in circles, until we both started slowly down. My chest hurt, and it was getting harder to dodge. I hear his paws beating against the blood-covered ground, and I only turned to see him leaping towards me, but I couldn't run. His claw reached down and cut my left eyes, and I screamed in pain. I open my eyes wide, but I could only see from one now. I continued to scream, my eye was in pain, and I couldn't do anything to bear the pain. The xweetok turned and came at me again, I moved to the side but his claw dug into my right cheek and tore the fur off. "Die!" He hissed. He leaped towards me again, and I fell onto my back. I saw in horror as his shadow fell over me. I retracted my back legs and kicked him in the stomach at full force, and then he blasted and crashed straight into the wall, and I could hear his bones breaking. I closed my eye. I didn't want to watch. I could smell his blood, and the only reason this was happening was because I had killed him. I felt hands grab me, but I didn't want to go. They quickly shuffled my back into my cage, but I didn't want to stay any longer. I snarled in my cage, and began pulling at the chains. I pulled harder, and I could feel the shackles begin to tear into my skin and start to make it bleed, but I wanted out.
The chains grew lose, and I pulled harder until I heard them shatter and break. I charged towards the bars that held me in and rammed full force into them, and did it continuously until I could squeeze through. The people instantly chased after me after the racket I had made, but I dodged their hands and ran between their flimsy legs. I ran out, away, and I didn't stop. I kept going until I finally went through the last door, and then fled into the darkness that surrounded me once again.

I had continued on for hours until I finally passed out. When I woke up, the sun was shining above my head, and it hurt my eye. I reached a paw up and tried to feel my wounded eye, but all I could feel was the eyelid. I tried to open my eye, but it wouldn't. All the nerves to my eye had been cut off, I no longer had two eyes, just one would have to do me. "What's your name?" I heard a voice ask, and then turned around to see a rather sad looking figure, she didn't look much better off then I did. She wasn't a xweetok like I was, but had long pointed ears, and a bandana around her head that reeked of blood. She didn't have a left eye, it had been replaced with a red circle, and half her body was silver. "What's your name?" She asked again. "I don't... I..." I said, and then let out a long sigh as a tear fell down my one eye. "I'm... Avenzaro." I said softly, as it was the last thing anyone had called me. "You're not dead, it surprised me." She said, and then walked over and sat in front of me. "I'm Neo." She said. "What are you?" I asked. "I'm was a test subject down a lineage of scientists, but I'm free now. My species? I'm not sure, I think I used to be a Kacheek." She said, but I wasn't really familiar with many other species then Xweetok. "What are you?" she asked. "I'm... A xweetok, though I've been through tests as well." I said. "So you don't have a home?" She said, and I nodded. "You can always look for the place they call the Xweetok forest, I know where the outskirts are, but I can't enter myself." She said. "I just want to be free..." I said softly. "Well, then follow with me." She said, and held out her paw. I never once had someone offer me a place to stay, I got up weakly and took a hold of her paw, even though I could feel pain surge through my face. "No one should be left behind, Avenzaro." She said, and I smiled weakly. "Yes, I'm Avenzaro." and somehow I had a feeling I would end up somewhere where there would be no more death surrounding me. I turned around one last time, facing towards the place I had run from and then turned back. I promised myself then and there, I wouldn't look back on the past again, I'd head forward. Living as Avenzaro, and not 'Beginner' or 000. I deserved a chance at life like everyone else, and I was going to take it.

Petpet' is really just my way of saying 'close friend'. This is Doki, I found him one day, lying in the rain. He couldn't move because he was completely soaked, and it was weighing him down because he is indeed a plushie. I picked him up and dried him off. He was odd, not like any plushie I'd seen before. He was a deep red, and his arms green. He had patches sewed on him, like he had been ripped. And oddly enough, he wore earmuffs. I asked him what they were for, and he told me they were a memento of the person who had last owned him, they had given them to him before they dissapeared, and know Doki was all alone. I asked if he would like to stay by my side, since we were both loners not sure where to go. He agreed, though he said he did want freedom to go where he wanted, and I told him he didn't even need to ask. I see Doki every no and then, and he often comes to keep me warm on cold nights. I couldn't ask for a better 'petpet'.

    -Friends-

Janiio was the first friend I ever made in the forest, he is blind but seems to handle things better then I can. He's helped in ways that's hard to describe, he knows the similar pains I've gone through, and I can't imagine him not being my friend. When we're together, we seem to often get in conflicts with Vaslyki.
