Introduction

Hello guest. If you're looking for my guide on paint brushes (the regular kind that work on neopets) then you've made a slight miscalculation and need to click here. This is a page dedicated to petpet paint brushes and the prices listed below get updated about every three weeks so please take what you see with a grain of salt. If you see anything missing, spot a mistake or would like to see something added please don't hesitate to neomail me.

Petpet Paint Brush FAQ

How do I paint my petpet?

The easiest way is to get a petpet paint brush that matches the color you want your petpet to be. Keep in mind however that the variety of colors available to a petpets is not constant. Some petpets are fairly popular and have many possible color options available to them while others have only a handful and still other petpet species have no options available to them at all - they only exist in one tone, the one you currently see them in. Furthermore, different colors may look drastically different on different petpet species (such as Halloween) so before you go off spending your hard earned neopoints I highly recommend you visit the All Petpet Colours page (it's under the Rainbow Pool) to see which colors your petpet comes in and what that color will look like. Once you have found a shade you like then make sure you've got your petpet paint brush sitting free in your items and not locked up in trades, your shop stock, safety deposit box or the like & visit the Petpet Puddle which is a link inside the Rainbow Pool. Scroll down a bit and things should be fairly self-explanatory from there. Another way to paint your petpets is to use the petpet lab ray. To see how that works just click here to skip to the section of my guide where I deal with it in more depth.

How do I get petpet paint brushes?

Buying them off of other users with the help of the shop wizard, trading post or auction house is the easiest way. My price guide below includes (to the best of knowledge at least) the full list of possible petpet paint brushes as well as their correct spelling if you would like to refresh your memory on what's out there and about how much you'll have to spend for it.

Random Events will on occasion give out rare items such as petpet paint brushes but as their name implies random events appear, well randomly. Playing the site more often and in particular spending time on games like NeoQuest or Cliffhanger that make the page load more often can slightly increase your odds of coming across a random event.

The Wheel of Monotony true to its name is a true test of patience. However, getting a petpet paint brush from it is a possibility so if you've got the time and money to spare then go ahead and give it a whirl. You may just get lucky!

World Challenges are a often over-looked section of the site. You complete a map either by winning the pieces or simply purchasing them off other users. A finished map will net you a tidy sum of NPs and a random, rare item. Petpet paint brushes, along with other goodies, have been reported as possible prizes. For more information on just how this feature works I recommend taking time to look over the FAQ. For those of you curious as to what the possible prizes are just check out the petpage of _Knight_Dog_ for a list of the kinds of prizes other users have been winning. Keep in mind there is no guarantee that you will get a petpet paint brush but it is definitely a possibility so this is worth keeping in mind, especially if you happen to be really good at some of the games out there

The Wishing Well is a strange, magical well found in the top left corner of the Neopian Bazaar. Local legend has it that if you drop in a coin and make a wish there's a chance it will be granted. Very few people who make wishes here ever see them come true but that doesn't mean they never do. So if you've got a neopoint or two to spare then toss in a coin and tell the well exactly what you want. Otherwise you may find your wish granted but instead of a petpet paint brush you'll find you got a book on petpets instead!

Site Contests often reward the winners with a few neopoints, a trophy on your user lookup and a random, rare item. Since petpet paint brushes are rare items there is a chance that you could get one if you win. Just be sure to read over the details for a contest before you enter. To be sure you'll be up against a lot of other users and even if you win you might not get a petpet paint brush but they can still be a lot of fun and as my sister says those shiny trophies will look really nice in your user lookup.

If my petpet paint brush is retired does that mean I can't use it?

No. You will still be able to use that petpet paint brush even though it's retired. All retired means is that no more of that item will be sold in shops, which doesn't really affect petpet paint brushes since you can't buy them in shops to begin with. The worse that will happen is that the item will become more scarce and rise in value over time.

Help! How come I can't find the petpet paint brush to get the color I want?

Just like the neopet lab ray, the petpet lab ray has a few colors that can only be obtained through it. These exclusive colors include Jelly, Gold, Chocolate, Strawberry & Soot. So if you want any of those colors you have to have access to the petpet lab ray and get really lucky. I have devoted an entire section to the petpet lab ray below if you would like to scroll down a ways.

I tried painting my petpet but nothing is happening. Why isn't it working?

Well there are a couple of things that might have gone wrong. For instance, are you sure you're using a petpet paint brush? The sparkly green and sparkly blue paints have a striking resemblance to petpet paint brushes but are in fact school supplies that do not paint anything. Are you trying to paint a petpet that you've been zapping with the petpet lab ray? If so then I'm sorry but you'll have to remove the petpet so that it reverts to it's original form before you can paint it. Also, you are only allowed to paint a petpet that is currently attached to one of your neopets and most petpets have only a handful of color options available to them. Check out the All Petpet Colours link under the Rainbow Pool to see what colors your petpet comes in. Finally, what type of petpet are you trying to paint? If you're trying to change the color of a snow kookith or white ona then I'm sorry but that isn't possible. The reason for this is that snow kookiths and white onas were given out as Advent Calendar prizes in previous years. Both kookiths and onas were extremely rare, valuable petpets prior to this massive gift giving. In order to prevent the prices of all onas and kookiths from dropping drastically the staff added a restriction making it impossible to change the color of a snow kookith or white ona.

What about the petpet lab ray?

The petpet lab ray is a device that is able to change your petpet to a random color, a random petpet species, alter its level, reduce the poor thing to a pile of soot or even make your petpet so unstable that it will vanish completely into the ether! Its inventor is a deranged kookith owned by the mad scorchio scientist that runs the old lab ray. To be eligible to get the petpet lab ray you must first gain entry to the regular lab ray. The petpage of the grey lupe JustToClearThings has an excellent guide on how the regular lab ray works and what you must do to get it but to get more information on the petpet lab ray I recommend you pay a visit to the petpage of Filipino2582 - just click here. Anyway, once you've gained access to the normal lab ray you'll notice that when you go to games, puzzles, treasure maps you'll see a sixth link titled Petpet. It is here you must go once you've collected all nine pieces of the petpet map which are called "Petpet Laboratory Map" and for all you curious neopians here is what the completed petpet map looks like:

Before you start saving up your neopoints though keep in mind that the PPL is against this new contraption and any petpets altered by it are not going to be eligible for their weekly competition. Furthermore if a petpet that has been zapped is removed from its neopet it will revert to its original form in order to prevent users from making fortunes by taking cheap petpets such as abominable snowballs and then zapping them into faerie moltenores or the like. There's also a chance that when you zap your petpet it will change into a pile of soot. Here's what a pile of soot looks like:

This was intended to be a permanent condition, or so the said the Neopets staff in the editorial of the 203rd issue of the Neopian Times. But I've heard several first hand accounts from petpet lab ray users assuring me that when they removed their soot petpets from the neopets they were attached to they did in fact revert their original forms.

Can I use two or more petpet paint brushes to get a mixed color? For instance using two petpet paint brushes to get a plushie and grey buzzer?

I'm sorry but no, it is not possible to mix colors. If you paint a plushie buzzer with a grey petpet paint brush it will just turn grey. You will completely lose the previous color.
