Pet Name: Sekleta
My name is Sekleta, and I live above Neopia, in the Space Station. Some people say it’s a strange place for a xweetok. Why would a furry little dweller of Mystery Island want to live someplace so far away, so cold and alien? Well, I think to understand that I need to tell you the story of how I met her, the one and only Space Faerie.
When I was a young xweetok growing up on Mystery Island, I was getting myself into all sorts of trouble. My friends and I had been talking about Techo Mountain that day, and they had all agreed it was a horrible place to go. Stony ridges we impossible to climb, they said. Branchy trees were so much better.
Hah! I felt defiant. I wanted to prove that I could do impossible things. Why? I can’t really explain it. Back then I was so eager to do the opposite of what people wanted or expected, it was a silly phase of my life.
As I neared closer to the Mountain, I started to feel uneasy. It was so tall! Maybe I should turn back?
No, no, no. What will they say when I go back and tell them I couldn’t do it? After all that bragging I did! I pressed on.
The first step was easy. But as I ascended, it became harder and harder. There were no branches weaving through the walls. Nothing to grab onto if I fell. Up and up I went, paws clamoring up rigid peaks and hard, unforgiving ridges. I was almost there. At last, I reached the peak. The thin, winding circle that encased a deathly pit of lava. I had never seen lava before. I stared at it, mesmerized. I didn’t notice I was leaning in before it was too late. My paws slipped and I fell!
I cried out. Oh no, I would be cooked! I closed my eyes, scared of what was to come- and then, it didn’t. Something grabbed my arms and lifted me upwards. The heat of the lava disappeared, and when I opened my eyes again I was back on the ground. I looked around for an explanation- and that’s when I saw her.
Vibrant red across her chest, waist, and gloves. Her legs were starry like a galaxy. Hair a brilliant blue, and eyes as red as the lava I had almost tumbled into. She certainly looked out of place on Mystery Island.
“I-” I was at a loss for words. “Thank you! Thank you so much!”
She smiled, and in an instant she disappeared into the sky, her gossamer wings leaving a trail of stars behind her.
That night, at home in the forest, I sat and thought. I thought about all my attempts to impress all my friends, and realized that I had never managed to excite the kind of adoration in them that the Space Faerie had in me. Everything I had done to impress people, well, it was for me. The Space Faerie had done something for me. She saved me. And that was why I looked up to her so.
That was the day I changed my ways. From that moment, I decided to devote my life to helping others, rather than trying to impress them. I learned everything I could about my new idol, the Space Faerie. How she had saved the Grundos from the evils of Dr. Sloth. She saved an entire species! She had freed them. If only I could be such a great a hero as her.
So that is why I eventually found my way to the Space Station. To help defend what the Space Faerie worked so hard to create. I help the Grundos with their daily work to keep Dr. Sloth from ever returning. And his influence is still there- that is why we need good Neopians around to help make it a better place.
The Space Faerie was even grateful for my help, and gave me a starry paint job! I have never been happier. And I’m much happier knowing I am making a difference. It is far better than knowing I’ve done something difficult just for the sake of it.
It’s a simple lesson, but an important one!
