Kougras, the Mystery Island Natives

by jarmad270

Hi! I'm TigerJeddah, the Fire Kougra. You can call me Tiger, everybody does! ^_^ I've done a report on Kougras, as in their history, appearances, etc. But first a little introduction:

Kougras throughout the ages have always been loyal and brave. They will always put their family and friends before them, and are a very dignified species. As you are lead through this report, you will learn many interesting facts on these amazing Neopets.

Physical Appearance: Kougras can grow very big, the common size is around 70 cm in height. And average weight is 40lbs for a cub and 115 - 140lbs for a fully grown Kougra. When not painted, Kougras have stripes running down their backs for camouflage in the wild. This is highly valued for the wild Kougras - yes, there still are some wild ones prowling around Mystery Island's jungles. Kougras are strong and have instant reflexes, ears able to hear a pin drop six miles away, long claws and sharp teeth (canine teeth).

Diet: Kougras, both tame and wild, are naturally carnivores. Hardly any meat is not healthy for them. In the wild, Kougras will pounce on any unsuspecting Kau, and sometimes a weak, old, injured or young Elephante. This hardly ever happens anymore, as Kaus, Elephantes and other prey to the Kougras are well aware of the dangers of walking alone in a Kougra jungle alone.

Predators: Kougras have no natural predators. On Mystery Island, when Neopia was just new, Kougras had no fear. Even now they have no fear. As I said before in prey, there were Elephantes and Kaus on Mystery Island. Elephantes could be particularly dangerous, but every Kougra knew instinctively to stay out of their way. Surely, if Grarrls and Skeiths were native to the island, Kougras may have an occasional attacker, but it would be the same for the Grarrls and Skeiths as well.

Survival Skills: Powerful jaws, sharp claws, big paws and strength helped make Kougras king of the jungle. But it isn't well known that their cunning was also a great help. It was recorded by a JubJub scientist, when Mystery Island was just discovered, that a particular Kougra's pride were stuck in the middle of a flooded area. Every time a Kougra tried to seek safety in his or her den, they'd soon come out sopping wet for their dens would be full of water. The only place the could stay dry were the trees, the JubJub wrote down. Then, the Kougras started talking in Kougra talk amongst themselves, and several of the Kougras started to push large logs next to each other and stacked on top. The rest of the Kougras had rushed off somewhere, and when they came back the had long sticks. Within a matter of hours they had built a sort of a house/den on a high pile of logs, and they slept and played there until the water was down.

History: It is thought that when Neopia was just made, Kougras were very different. Instead of the sleek, Tiger-like build Kougras have today, they had long Sabre teeth and a very bushy tail. They were smaller then they were today but had a very sturdy build. Ancient Kougras also had blue to green eyes, though now they have yellow. Ancient Kougras also didn't have such big paws, they had rather dainty paws, much like a Wocky's. They'd move around as a solitary Kougra then, not in a pride.

Well, that's it on Kougras. All the basics, anyway. If you've been impressed by the Kougra, why not adopt one today? Or you could create one. A Kougra surely is a great pick for a pet! If you're looking for a loyal, caring, friendly, strong and cheerful pet, then a Kougra's the one for you!
