A birthing. There was going to be a birthing. How exciting! Kaats of all shapes, sizes, and colors were circling around the young mother-to-be.


*"Where is her mate?"


*"Good question."


*"Did he run off?"


*"I doubt it."


*"What is it going to be?"


*"I hope it's a girl. I didn't make this for nothing!"


*"A girl! Hah! I've got 6 of 'em. Nothing but trouble! She'd be better off with a boy!"


*"Oh, I hope the father will be back soon!"


*"Do you think he even knows he's going to have a young cub?"


*"Highly unlikely! He dissapeared 8 months ago!"


*"What a shame!"


1 month later, after the baby shower, a young cub was born with the most unusual markings. "What the--"


*"Aurora!" yelled another Kaat. A tall female Kaat walked up to her.


*"Mother! How nice to see you!" said Aurora.


*"I came as soon as I heard. What did you decide to name the little one?"


*"I-I haven't. Mother, look at the strange markings! And the wings! No cub has been born with such magnificent wings."


*"Hmm? Oh my...those are the markings of an ancient goddess. The goddess....Zephermon. She had power over the very air we breathe. Here, a little present from me."


She handed Aurora a little pink blanket made with the finest wool. "I thought that you might like it." she said with a smile. "Now, I must go. I'll be back to check up you later."


Zephermon....that sounds nice. That's it, her name will be Zephermon. May the Goddess of Wind help you through life. Aurora thought.

Part II: The Tragedy


1 year later, there was a dreadful attack on their planet. Many ships from Glacia came to the planet Karuna, and started bombing the entire planet. Many lives were lost on that fateful day, but Aurora went into a ship with Zephermon and took off. They reached the planet Neopia in just 2 weeks, and when they landed, Aurora thought that they would blend in perfectly, but less did she know, she was gravely injured.


3 years later, the mother died. She made so little Neopoints that they could barely afford anything. She gave most of her food to Zephermon, so that she will stay strong. Then one day, she collapsed in the factory she was working in. Her last dying words were "Please.....give this.....amulet...to Zephermon...my daughter....it is...a....family.....heirloom....She must...continue...the...le..ga..cy..." And Aurora breathed her last breath.

Part III: The Mystery of the Music


It has been 5 years after losing not only her home, but her mother as well, whose face she can barely remember. Zephermon, being 8 years old, is taking a walk in her favorite park when all of a sudden, she hears faint music. It was coming from the forest. She walks through the bushes, and rushes toward the sound of the mysterious, but sweet song. When she catches up to the sweet sound, she finds....another Kaat! He was a silvery gray, with dark blue swirls on his fur, and he was playing a flute. He was sitting on an old tree stump. The music...it's so....familiar..where have I heard that song before? Zephermon thought. "Excuse me? Wha--" Before she could finish, the Kaat rushed off. How odd. He almost seemed...scared of me. I wonder why that is. I'll figure that out later. I've got other things to take care of.she thought, then went home.

Part IV: A Monster


As Zephermon was leaving the woods, she saw a monster. It had taken down a rare animal that had existed on Karuna. "Leave her alone, you big, sewer-fuzzball!" But the creature swung its mighty arm at her and knocked her out. "Hey!" yelled someone. It was a young girl of 14, about to be 15. "Leave them alone!" and then she threw fire from her hands. The monster yelped in pain, took a last hungry glance at the girl, and ran off. "Hey, you ok?" she asked. "Yes. I am."*

Part V: A New Home


*"Come on, follow me." Zephermon followed the girl. When they were done walking, they were at a house. "Well, it isn't much. But it's home. Do you want to be part of our family?" she asked. "Sure, it's not like I have any family left." And that was the beginning of a good friendship.
