Sestina for Nabile and Jazan of Qasala
Above the city there is magic
A rising sun is pulsing red
Animation comes with lively day
To light the windows of the brave
About them swirls the shimmering dust
They wake, for they have found no nightmare.
They sob and shiver in the nightmare
Which bears the sour tang of magic
Upon the wind like malice, dust.
Their eyes spill tears of flowing red
As they wish to the sky that they could be brave
And endure until the coming of day.
So comes the ending of the day
And the defence against the nightmare
For vigilant are the guards and brave
Are their spirits bright and purely magic --
They set here fountains with jewels of red
To ripple water into the dust.
They rule a city of ashes and dust
And never see the joy of day
Their ruined pinnacles glow fire-red;
Within them dwells a darkened nightmare
Yet still within the guise of magic
As desperate rebels fight the brave.
The Prince and Princess are courageous and brave
Who tore the curses into dust.
In their clasped hands is highest magic,
Their heads held high at noon of day
For Qasala's light forgets all nightmare
It blossoms like a rose of red.
Fear and strength is raiment red
Upon the noble and the brave
Who arose within a despairing nightmare
To stir and redeem the ruins of dust
And brought to it its glorious day
Where there is joy that seems of magic.
The blood-red desert found a nightmare
Of destroying magic: With valour brave
The two brought forth from dying dust the day.
I've been locked inside Eliv Thade's castle
There's visible gloom and despair
Every time I turn around
I'm feeling his unearthly glare
With each step I take there's an ambush
He's floating in front of my eyes
But in the jumble of letters
Is where the real terror lies
I've got the anagram blues
I can't tell what word to choose
I confess I am just a young Usul
Looking for a bit of a quest
Though I didn't expect the quest to be
More like a spelling test!
I'm dodging from room to room
Collecting some old artifacts
Yet they do nothing to help me
With unscrambling "arideeacts"
I've got the anagram blues
I need just a couple more clues!
Oh Eliv! Can't you comprehend
Why I want this wretched game to end
Can't you see that you are causing me
Don't you know all the pain that you give?
I would think you don't want me to live
I'm standing in front of the dungeon
I'm on my very last leg
There's no way I'll get another hint
No matter how much I beg
Now I'll tell you obvious news
I've still got the anagram blues
And I am sure to lose
How I sit and wait for thee
Waiting brings me so much pain
sitting here through wind and rain.
What great prize is awaiting me?
A Petpet for my sweet Kacheek,
or rare food for my pets to eat?
Please slow down, come on, for me?
It spins, spins, spins, spins in a tizzy
Watching it just makes me dizzy.
"It's slowing down!" I squeal with glee
Anticipation takes its hold
I've waited so long; now I feel old.
It's stopped! Now what's the prize I see?
What! I've turned a strange red hue;
The mystery prize! Say it's not true!
It's horrible! It cannot be!
I wasted my whole life away:
Four Neopoints was my only pay.
The Grey Uni Who Smiles
Golden wings flashed in the sun,
Golden neigh rang clarion.
Through halcyon skies with joy she flew,
A golden Uni against the blue.
Then one day, on looking down,
She noticed a spot of gloom on the ground;
Curiosity called, the Uni dove,
Landing in a solemn grove.
Toward the crying faerie she paced,
Then gently licked the tears from her face.
"Why do you cry, and where are your wings?"
The Uni asked in the faerie's ring.
The grey face lifted and tried to smile,
But it was a broken thing, though without guile.
"My name is Baelia; I live under a curse:
A dark faerie stole my wings, joy, and worse."
"I now live my days both fleeing her wrath,
And seeking among the many world paths
A cure for the wicked spell that she laid,
That buried my happiness in its dark grave."
The Uni was moved to tears by the tale,
Then resolved this harrowing fate to assail:
"You need a friend who will guard and guide,
And powerful wings upon which to glide."
"I will become your path-seeking steed,
Together we'll search the whole world, if you need,
To find the magic that will give back your wings,
Because all good faeries in joy should sing."
Then love for this faerie swelled so great,
That the Uni felt the sacrifice was small to make:
With a whole-hearted nuzzle she gave up her colour,
It flowed from the Uni into the other.
Golden light sparkled and trickled in veins,
Ran through the faerie to the place of her wings;
From the bent shoulders grew two tiny stubs,
The beginning of wings, fueled by love.
Just for a moment, the Grey Faerie smiled,
And her hands brushed back the mane so wild;
"A truer friend I've never had,
To give up your glory for this faerie so sad."
"What is your name, my newfound friend?"
"Sunny," the Uni replied with a grin.
Baelia smoothed the velvety muzzle
To which Sunny gave an answering nuzzle.
"Though you've lost your colour
And are now grey like me,
I can see that your heart still holds
Sunlight times three;
I accept your kind offer, and together we'll fly,
Seeking an answer for both you and I."
Grey wings soar through shadow and sun,
A grey pair searches, wherever paths run;
In sadness and hope this steed roams the miles:
The great-hearted Grey Uni who still wears a smile.
Waking up, munching snow,
100% bloated is the only foe.
Eating, eating, eating away,
After 30 minutes a ton you'll weigh.
Get the glowing green gems, the more the better,
This doesn't make it small, I mean your sweater.
But watch out for the worms,
Guarding the purple jewels,
If you try to defeat them, you must be one of the fools.
Reach the bottom in 90 seconds or less,
If you don't, you'll have to start the level over, I guess.
Fifty meters you'll have to go,
So just focus on munching snow.
Just don't stand under the highlighted ice,
When it hits you, don't expect it to be nice.
Only try to munch the snow,
Don't bother eating the stones;
When you do ten more points of bloating it'll show.
I think I'm done now, so I'll have to go.
