For years Neopian scientists have been trying to discover
exactly what lived in the world that we know today as Neopia. The most common
theory was that the Neopets of today are the descendants of the Tyrannians and the
inhabitants of the Lost Desert. But what about that Punchbag Bob? Where in Neopia did
he come from?

One scientist in particular was interested in Punchbag Bob--Dr. Martin L. Kikol had been
pondering the mystery that was Bob for half of his life. One sunny day in the month of Hunting
he decided that formulas and maps would bring him no further with his research. He tried to
think of another way to uncover Bob's origins. "Hmm... I could try to run some tests on him,"
Martin said, "but I don't know how to analyse straw. I just wish there had been more study in
the field of Punchbags." Just then, a lightbulb clicked on in his little Kiko brain. "That's
it!" he exclaimed, "I have to find more like him. He'll know where to look..."

...So the good Dr. Kikol set out across High Street to the Battledome. He searched the locker
rooms until he found Bob sprawled across a bench after a nasty "fight" with a Level 17 Jetsam.
Looking up, Bob shouted, "Oh my! Not ANOTHER challenger!"
"Oh, no no no," Kikol replied, "I want to learn where there are more like you."
To which Bob answered, "Why, so you can drag them here to be beaten on?"
"NO! I don't work in the Battledome!" Kikol assured him. "I just want to know where there
are more of you!
"Well," Bob said, "I don't remember, but the Grundo farmer just outside of Happy Valley might."
With that, Kikol set out for Terror Mountain...

...Dr. Kikol had almost no supplies at all except for the fact that he was already wearing
his winter clothes and had a PB & J sandwich for lunch stuffed in his lower-left, zipper pocket.
So, Dr. Kikol slowly marched step by step up the endless mountainside, hoping to see a glimpse
of the mountain peak. He marched on and on and on, with no sign of the top. He was becoming
weary and his vision started to blur. He fell into the deep snow.
"Come on Kikol," he thought, "you've got to get up. You can make it. You need to find more
about the Punchbag Bob. You need to. Now get up, Kikol, get up."
Ever so slightly Dr. Kikol lifted his head, followed by his arms, then his legs. He kept
moving. I walk for many more miles and miles without a trace of life from any corner, but
he still went on.
Finally, he saw the mountain top. He ran as hard as his legs would move. He ran and ran
and ran and ran... he stopped. Dr. Kikol took his first step onto the newly laid snow...

...it was soft, cold, and fluffy. Just ahead he saw a large Grundo with a yellow snowball
in his hand. "Ahoy, Mr. Grundo sir, may I have a word?" Dr. Kikol yelled.
"Yeah what is it? My yellow snowball is melting," the Grundo yelled back, throwing his snowball
at a passing Bruce.
"Well, as you may know I am the scientist Dr. Kikol, and I am highly interested in Punchbag bob.
Where could he have come from? How did he end up in the Battledome? Who are his ancestors? I
am trying to find his relations. Perhaps they hold some sort of clue. So, will you help me?" Dr.
"Well they're and odd lot, those Punchbag people. I'm not saying they're bad people, just strange.
Yeah, I knew 'em, I can't tell you exactly where they dwell, cause that would be betraying them,"
he said. Just then that Bruce came by again loaded with a wet snowball. It splattered all over Dr.
Kikol and the Grundo.
"Why that little fool," the Grundo declared. He began to chase the Bruce. "Oh yeah, go to the Haunted
woods and talk to the Scarecrow, he and Bob are distant cousins, but be careful he'll want something from you
if you want information from him," the Grundo yelled back.
"Oh no," said Dr. Kikol...

...he'd rather go anywhere else than The Haunted Woods! But in order to figure out the Punchbag
Bob mystery, he knew he must. So, down he went off the mountainside, the decent much easier than
climbing it. Still, he was caked with snow and frost, and his entire body stung with the terrible
cold. At last, he neared the ocean, which he'd have to cross to get to the forest. He ran the
last distance to the ocean, and for a moment, while he caught his breath, he stared at the blue,
heaving waves. Then, being a Kiko, he leapt almost joyfully into the salty water.
The water was different here. It was a beautifully blue on top, but when he looked down beneath
him as he swam, he saw a murky darkness. He put on an extra burst of speed--afraid something
which he couldn't see until too late would rise up out of the black and gobble him up.
"What a relief," he uttered as he clambered onto shore and shook himself off. He looked up at
the Haunted Woods before him. "Relief?" he laughed fearfully. He started uneasily towards the
dark woods. The trees were terrifying to look at. Their bark was twisted into spooky faces,
and their leafless, skeletal branches seemed to hang out over him as he entered.
"But what should I give the scarecrow?" he wondered loudly to himself to keep his mind off
where he was. He looked in his pocket, at the mushy mess of what used to be a PB & J sandwich.
He had forgotten that it had been in his pocket when he had gone into the water. Suddenly, he
heard a crack of a twig to his left. Slowly, he turned to look, and saw...

...nothing absolutely nothing. "These woods make me so jumpy." Dr. Kikol thought to himself.
For the next few minutes Dr. Kikol tiptoed through the forest, afraid that if he made any sort
of loud noise something would jump out and consume him. He finally made it to the Scarecrow.
"E-excuse me, i-is anyone h-here?" Dr. Kikol managed to sputter out.
"Yeeees, whaaaat dooo youuu waaaaant," someone drawled from behind Dr. Kikol. Dr. Kikol jumped
nearly five feet into the air. He quickly whipped around to see who was behind him--it was the
"Um, I am Dr. Kikol and I've heard you are related to Punchbag Bob, I as wondering if you know
where Punchbag Bob comes from, who are his ancestors?" Dr.Kikol asked backing up a little.
"Well, I know I am related to him, but I have no idea where he comes from. Why don't you try
Faerieland? I've heard that the Faerie Queen knows all," the Scarecrow said, walking closer and
closer to Dr. Kikol.
"Oh, thanks I'll be going now!" Dr.Kikol said while running away. "Phew, that was quite
frightening," he thought, walking out of the woods. "Now how am I supposed to get up there," he
said while pointing up to the clouds...

...Pondering this thought, the poor Kiko trudged out of the Haunted Woods quite
unhappily. He wondered if the search for the ancestry of Punchbag Bob was really
that worth it. He had already nearly froze to death, had been pelted by snowballs, YELLOW
snowballs, was nearly eaten by something in the water, and was terrified out of his wits in
the Haunted Woods. And now, they expect him to find a way to get to Faerieland!
But he had already come this far, and he wasn't about to give up now. The good doctor mustered
up all his wits and knowledge and thought, "Hmmmm. There must be a way to get up there. What if
I float up on my Cirrus pet? No, no, that won't do. She won't be able to hold me up. What if I
use some Striped Balloons to get me up there? No, no, there just won't be enough power. But what
if, what if I construct a machine, a flying machine using materials that fly? That could be a
possibility! Us Kiko's don't like being airborne, but it looks like it's the only way I can continue
my quest." With that, Dr. Kikol started out for his laboratory...

...CLANK CLANK! Dr. Kikol was working like mad building a weird looking flying
machine. "This oughta do it!" he said as he looked proudly at his flying machine. It looked like
a bike with an engine-operated fan. The wings were made from Meerca tails.
"If I pedal long enough I might be able to get to up to Faerieland to talk to the Faerie Queen about Bob!"
Proudly he marched out of his lab with his flying machine rolling along side of him. "Here goes nothing,"
Dr. Kikol said as he hopped on his flying machine. Dr. Kikol pedaled. As he pedaled the machine began to
rise higher and higher until...

...Dr. Kikol could almost touch the clouds of Faerieland with his hands. Pedaling a little farther he
collapsed on the clouds. All that pedaling had made him so tired, however, knowing that the sooner he
found out about Punchbag Bob, the sooner he could go home--that drove Dr. Kikol on. Walking around
Faerieland, Dr. Kikol saw visiting pets walking around happily, injured pets waiting at the Healing
Springs, even wealthy pets spinning the Wheel of Excitement. Dr. Kikol finally arrived at the gate
of the city. He strode in and instantly saw the huge tower, which housed the Faerie Queen. "As if
I'm not tired enough already," he said as he saw hundreds of steps leading up the top of the tower...

...he climbed, climbed, and climbed on until he reached Faerie castle. It was a beautiful site.
Tall glistening towers reflected the sun's bright rays. He opened a door taller than any other
door he'd ever seen in his life. He walked into the castle hallway.
A butler greeted him at the hallway. "How may I help you, sir," said the butler.
"I would like to see the Faerie Queen, please," said Kikol.
The butler took a sniff at him. "Oh my!" he said. I'll be right back." The butler came back and
offered Kikol some clothing to replace his torn and smelly clothes. "You have come a long way,
I see," said the butler.
"You have no idea," said Kikol. Kikol thanked him kindly and soon it was time for dinner. The Faerie
Queen greeted Kikol at the dining room door.
"Thank you again for having me for dinner," said Kikol, amazed at the queen's beauty and radiance.
"Now, what is it you want to ask me?" the queen asked.
"Well, all the Neopets of Neopia come from different places. What I need to know is where Punchbag
Bob came from."
"Punchbag BOB?" asked the queen.
"Precisely," replied Kikol.
"Well, uhhhh, Punchbag Bob is, well, uhh," said a puzzled Faerie Queen. "Ahhhh, yes! Punchbag Bob! He
came from Wheatfields of Neopia!" exclaimed the queen.
"Wheatfields?" asked Kikol.
"Why, yes. I made Punchbag out of wheat, straw, and burlap. Then I blessed him into life to create
the perfect Punchbag that Neopets could use for Battledome practice."
The conversation went on for hours about the creation of Bob, and a satisfied Dr. Kikol finally had
his answer. When he was back home, he realised that the Faerie Queen didn't tell him him everything
about Punchbag bob, like, 'Does he have a brother?' or "Does he ever leave the Battledome?'. But he
decided that some questions couldn't be answered until Neopia was ready for them, and maybe Kikol
would set out for another adventure soon, but now he just wanted to get a good night's rest.
But wait... *scratch scratch* He heard something at his window. He thought he saw a hand
made of straw!
"Nah!" he said. "It's probably just a branch."
