"But you're a highly intelligent bird, Ootel," his mum
said, holding a mirror to his face, "Why do you want to be a Poogle? They're just
slobbering little four-legged things that have very sharp teeth!" Ootel was
silent for a second, taking a good look at himself. "But, mummy, us Lennys are
at the bottom of the list. We get no respect for our smarts and there's that
Wooden Spoon thing. I found this on the ground outside," Ootel said, showing
his mum a pass to the Rainbow Fountain, "I'm going there tomorrow." It was settled.
Ootel had made up his mind...

...Poogles, he thought, They get all the attention. Instead of the laughs
and points, from now on I'll be respected. Parades, fairs, pageants... I'll be living
the life. As he walked the street to the Rainbow Fountain, his mind clouded with
thoughts of the life he would lead once he was no longer himself. As the fountain came
into view over the hillside his stomach began to churn. "I wonder if this will hurt?" he
said out loud. His steps became slower and his heart pounded faster. The closer he was
to the fountain the more he wanted to turn and run back home. "I'm going through with
this. I don't care what happens," he proclaimed as he heaved his bird chest out into the air and
straightened his wings just so. With his new found courage he quickly walked to the gate.
I hope the line isn't very long, I don't know how long I can hold on to this courage,
he thought as he looked and counted the pets in front of him. That's when he saw the
little Poogle a few pets ahead of him...

...as Ootel got in line, he could hear the Poogle whispering to herself. "Oh, I
hope this works. I've always wanted to be a Lenny! They're so smart and sophisticated, and
those lovely feathers!" Ootel was shocked. A Poogle...wanting to be a Lenny? It was absurd.
Ootel stared as the blue Poogle began to step into the fountain. Wanting to get a closer look,
he moved forward in line, but tripped on the Kacheek's tail in front of him. "Oof!" he shouted
as he fell into the fountain, pushing the Poogle in with him. Suddenly, there was a great ball
of light, and the Poogle and Ootel were thrown to the side. "Oh my," Ootel gasped as he looked
at his paws...

...gone were the lovely feathers of his glorious wingspan, replaced instead with the short, stubby
paws of... a Poogle? And then an uneasy yet tantalisingly delicious realisation crept in: no
longer did he tower over the other Neopets. He was, in fact, very, VERY close to the ground.
A quick glance at his hind legs confirmed it. YES! He did it! His awkward, gawking Lenny body
was now a sleek, mean, Poogle-racing machine! He peered into the mirror-like surface of the
fountain, wanting to see his beautiful Poogle face with his new Poogle eyes. But what greeted him
was NOT a Poogle face... it was his face. His LENNY face!! Oh no, he thought to himself,
what have I done now?? "Yes, indeed," echoed a voice, a very distinctive female Poogle
voice, in his head, "what HAVE you done now???"...
Date : 24th July
..."This couldn't have happened", said Ootel. "I wanted to be a Poogle, but instead I have turned
myself into a half-Poogle, half-Lenny! Oh no!" Then, the female Poogle voice interrupted and said,
"You know, I guess this teaches us both a lesson." Ootel then replied, "Oh yeah, what lesson is
that? This is a disaster!" The Poogle voice answered, "We both wanted to be something we weren't
and in the meantime we didn't realise what we were! Poogles are great racers and have very sleek
bodies. And Lennys, they are very tall and intelligent and important! We are both equally grand
and magnificent! Why would we want to change that?!?!" Ootel thought about this and said,
"Yeah, I guess you're right, but, what are we going to do about the mess we've created?" Then
the Poogle voice replied, "I've got an idea!"...

...the Poogle although young, had a quite extraordinary sense of understanding. He knew that in order
to overcome their curse they must show the fountain that they have matured. The Poogle told Ootel what
they had to do, and Ootel, who was quite scared nodded. He was ready to face the test that the fountain
would give him, and he knew the fountain would judge him fairly. With a wave to the Poogle, he held his
nose and dove headfirst into the fountain, showing that he was ready for whatever test the magical world
inside the fountain would create for him. But can Lennys swim?...
Date : 25th July
...Perhaps not, but Ootel's body instinctively took over. Of course Ootel still had a Lenny head, and
therefore a Lenny brain, but this was far too powerful to be logical in the least. And even though the
female Poogle, who's name just happened to be Otelle, had a Lenny's body, she still had her brain. It
moved her wings and awkward legs to swim strangely but effectively. As they reached the bottom of the
bottomless fountain, they saw the first obstacle. They realised that they were no longer in water, but
in an arena. There was a racetrack and a trivia game show. First, Ootel was assigned to the game show
and Otelle was assigned the racing. Each thought it would be a snap because they still had their own brains.
Otelle was off at the buzzer, but she found she was last! A Lenny's birdlike body is not for running but
flying. When she took air, a Korbat took her wing and pulled her down. She was disqualified for using an
unfair advantage, and Ootel was set in front of a computer to press the correct keys to indicate the correct
answer. But can Poogle paws type?...
Date : 25th July
...then as he looked down at his Poogle paws, he saw something he hadn't noticed before. He still had his
Lenny toes! He could type! He carefully typed in "poogles" in answer to the question that showed on the
computer screen. Ootel anxiously waited for the moment when the host would say what the right answer was.
Finally, that moment came. The host said, "And now for the moment you've all been waiting for. The correct
answer to the question, printed on your screen is... Poogles! If you have typed in the correct answer, you
may proceed to the next challenge. Meanwhile, Otelle was crying because she couldn't pass her test...
Date : 26th July
...Otelle looked at the track. Back in school she was a star member of the track team. Why did she want
to give that up? She sighed. Her family was right. Lennys have brains but they just aren't athletic like
Poogles. Another Poogle race would start in 15 minutes and Otelle had to think of a way to pass the test.
She only had two more chances! Back over at the computer Ootel was breezing through the questions. Until
he got to the last question. "Poogles have very sharp ______." Ootel racked his brain for the answer. Was
it teeth? Or claws? Or breath? He had a Lenny head and Lenny toes! He couldn't tell which would be sharp
on a Poogle! But something his mummy said before he left for the fountain came back to him. "Poogles are
just slobbering little four-legged things with very sharp..." But what was it?...
Date : 26th July
...Nervously, Ootel began to look around the room at the other contestants ...a little green Poogle, who
was typing very rapidly, had his eyes fixed intently on the screen. Oh dear... Ootel thought to himself,
worried that the Poogle might get ahead of him. Just then, the Poogle caught sight of Ootel staring at him,
and looked up. Ootel was quite embarrassed, but for some reason he kept staring at the Poogle, who flashed
a rather toothy grin and went back to work... his TEETH! He had very, very sharp teeth! Ootel raced to
type in his answer. He sort of shuddered as he thought of those teeth again. Eugh, they were quite scary!
Did he really want teeth like that?...
Date : 27th July
...Ootel thought about it for a moment, but he knew to concentrate on his test. It said 'Last Question'
at the top of the screen. Oh, yes! It said: What do you get when you cross a Lenny with a Poogle?
It had multiple answers on some, and this was one of them. There was a: A mixed up Neopet, b: A
Loogle, or c: Don't you wish you were a Lenny again, Ootel? That was strange, but Ootel chose C
because, after all, that was the truth! A Faerie came up to Ootel and motioned him to follow. Ootel
did. He was taken to a large fountain and dove in. He thought it over about what he wanted to be,
and decided that being a Poogle wasn't what he wanted. There was a bright light like before, and
he dove to the top and realised that he was a Lenny! Ootel was overflowing with joy!
Otelle got up to gate number three to start racing. She was still thinking on what her skill would
be to win. Just then a Faerie came up to her gate and said, "Why don't you have your gear on? Go
over there to get it." She pointed to a table of things of all sort on it. Otelle walked over to
the table and looked at all of the things there. A hat with propeller, roller skates, a broken bike,
a fan, and all types of things! Otelle thought a bit, and came up with an idea. The broken bike
had handles connected next to the pedals, and the seat was way in the back. The back wheel was
gone too. Otelle connected two fans the gears in the back and taped her legs to the seat and
stretched her short arms to the pedals. She would use the pedals to form energy for the fans to
run. It was quite strange, but Otelle thought that she could do it. She peddled to the gate and
said that she was ready know. The Mynci shot the shotgun and they were off! Otelle was pedaling
very fast and hard. The fans were full blast, and was in second place. She kept going in front of
the second-placer and in back. There was a small ramp ahead, and right passed it was the finish
line. The person ahead of Otelle had the propeller hat and a racecar body. The hill came up and
Otelle held on tight. Otelle heard a loud boom, and looked behind. The racecar had not landed right
and had flipped over! Otelle peddled frantically and passed the finish line! She won! The Faeries
showed him the way out to the fountain. Otelle swam into it and floated to the top. She thought
the same as Ootel, and that being a Lenny wasn't really what she wanted. She swam up to the bright
light and came out of the fountain. She was a Poogle again! Ootel and Otelle had learned their
lesson, and never used the fountain ever again, and never ever wished that they were different!
